As someone who is disabled (wheelchair, walker and quad cane, depending on circumstances), I'm always struck by how invisible those of us who are disabled seem to be in society. Very good article.

Balsam and woodsmoke - smells like Maine to me. I went on a solo road trip there for my first ever vacation. I drove to and through parts of the Maine coast and headed inland as well. I went in the fall so the air was so crisp and clean. This was over twenty years ago and whenever I smell either of those scents, it takes me right back to Maine.

I'd take the lump sum, hire an attorney to set up trust funds for my sister/BIL and their kids with a portion of the funds. Have the attorney walk me through what is involved in setting up a charitable trust/foundation so I can spend my retirement as a philanthropist. Get a financial advisor to help me figure out what to invest in to make sure I can live comfortably. Buy land somewhere and build a house for me and my dogs.

I primarily drink coffee and tea - only decaf coffee, since I drink a lot of the stuff. Coffee with cream, breakfast of champions! My favorite flavored coffees (usually a pecan or hazelnut flavor) come from New England Coffee and Lola Savannah.

Teas - black, green and herbal, the stronger the better. Can be decaf or regular since I don't drink as much of it as I do coffee. Plain water, rarely. Carbonated, flavored waters (unsweetened), occasionally and beer, once in a blue moon (only for medicinal purposes).

I would love to run a Linux distro but then I'd have to forget about playing my games. I'm not tech savvy enough to set up a VM or use WINE so I'm stuck with Windoz. As for physical media like CDs and DVDs, yeah, I prefer to have the physical copy of the album or movie, rather than trusting that it will always be accessible on my computer.

I wish the article had put additional emphasis on the lack of safeguards and monitoring of surgeons performing sterilizations in India, in addition to the lack of education and availability of other options for birth control.

On the other hand, contrast that with people in the US who want the "nuclear" option of sterilization and can't get it without jumping through hoops.

I haven't been on insulin for quite some time and even during the short period (approx. 15 months or so) that I was, I either had insurance or was covered by Medicaid. I don't remember what my insulin cost was at that time (this was back in 2005-2006) but just doing some quick Google-fu, I found prices ranging from $295.00-421.00 per 100 units. If I was uninsured now, I wouldn't be able to handle what it currently costs due to being on a fixed income. So it wouldn't even be that I'd ration it, I'd probably just stop using it altogether.
