I believe the thought is that you can only get the cab if you can afford it. Sure, there might be more drivers, but for a ride that's $40 +tip, not $20 +tip - and that extra $20 may be the difference in going out or not (or not being able to go out another day, if you discover the high price you didn't account for on your way back home). More people can get cabs, but more people can't afford the new price for the cabs and so it evens out, as nosewings said

It's an expensive Easter egg though, and makes it far less cute. I'm all for supporting artists, but paying $20 to see a recorded performance is a little much - that's more than most movies!

I worry that if more content that glorifies abuse appears, the tone might over time shift to be defensive, instead of informing, but that may be my own experiences shading my view.

I thought it was good the post was removed. The post compared two different abusive relationships and asked which was more desirable. That kind of content is painful to read, as someone who was in an emotionally abusive relationship. It is also not the kind of content that creates positive, engaging conversation. I was glad to see it removed, and I think the community is better for it.

I feel like your comment is unnecessarily adversarial. Affirmative action can be good, but if it isn't implemented in the right way - to Handshape's point - it might do harm, also (to other employees' and to the company's growth, if positions can't be filled or promotions aren't just merit-based). Getting annoyed with someone for pointing it out takes away a chance to have a conversation about a solution.

If something isn't perfect, we shouldn't just say, "Well, tough luck, others felt that way too." We should look at continuing to improve, so that no one feels ostracized for their gender, race, culture, religion, sexual orientation, or age. Instead of affirmative action in promotions, why not support only looking at experience for promotions, in time? Then there's the downside of everyone being promoted even if they don't do good work, but that would be the new risk. Or maybe a promotion based on some score of work - easier in some fields than others, but other fields could lead to biases.

The need for notifications is unhealthy, at least for me. I don't like the itch of boredom and "missing" when I'm away from my phone or computer. The internet used to be about discovery - having thoughts and then investigating, looking for people with similar interests, wanting to share my passions. Sometimes, I worry that with the current social media format, I've lost some of my own imagination, substance, and ability to discover.

The slow detachment of quick, never-ending, in-your-face media and internet engagement is one step closer to a healthier relationship with the internet for me, and one that I'm looking forward to.
