U2 3D was great because the lyrics were jumping out at you and it was absolutely immersive, not just depth like a lot of 3D these days. So while you've got all this shit flying out, BAM! There's Bono's huge head right in your face... and it was awesome.

Just anecdotally, my wife and I attended the Era's Tour and I think we both have interest seeing it in theaters, although her much more than me. I'd be happy to attend but it's also something I am willing to miss out on while when she heard the news this morning, she absolutely wanted to buy tickets for it.

To her, it's about reliving the experience especially since she would also be interested in attending the Eras tour again if it comes to a city near us. I think this is going to be pretty popular because it's a much more accessible way for people to attend who didn't get to originally. And even for those that were able to attend, it's a nice way to relive the experience.

If people were paying thousands of dollars to attend the concert (including me), I wouldn't even blink at paying a movie ticket price to experience it again.

I wonder how this will be received? It sounds like they're expecting super high demand like the concerts themselves, although that could just be marketing posture to drive up demand by pre-declaring a scarcity of ticket availability. I'm not sure I would pay to see a video of a concert in a movie theater. The appeal of concerts is the atmosphere of being there. The feeling of seeing a live event cannot be replaced by a video.

There seems to be expectations that this is going to break 100M DOM, due to how enthusiastic Taylor Swift fans are and the tickets being twenty dollars everywhere (19.89 specifically). There's a chance it beats The Exorcist: Believer that same weekend.

      We'll see though.

Well in a grouping that includes Christmas with the Chosen: The Messengers, I have a lot of confidence in this.

For real, though, I have heard that people have been going so crazy with concerts these days that venues are selling "listening seats" that don't have a view of the stage.

Right now concert recordings are about the only movie about real-world musical acts that I personally have any real confidence in. Rocket Man was somewhere between "OK" and "moderately good" for me, and that was the best one I've seen in years.

For the uninitiated, this one is a reference to Taylor Swift's birth year, 1989, which also inspired the title of her 5th album, 1989. One of her more obvious easter eggs, but it's cute.

It's an expensive Easter egg though, and makes it far less cute. I'm all for supporting artists, but paying $20 to see a recorded performance is a little much - that's more than most movies!

Tbh I don’t live in the USA, so it’s just a number to me. That is a lot for one ticket, esp in USD.

The Eras tour was such a phenomenal event that a TON of people wanting to attend simply were not able to

I agree with you it’s not the same, but for those unable to see the show, watching a professional recording on a high end theater sound system is the next best thing

Also, it would appear as though the demand is already through the roof because my girlfriend had been looking for tickets in nearly sold out theaters several hours ago after Swift announced it on her IG

Though the question is obviously more of if people want the theater experience. It's very different from the concert experience, even if you're stuck in the nosebleeds.

Ah very cool! I guess much like Ticketmaster, I underestimated the number and dedication of Taylor Swift's fans :)

I got lucky enough to see one in person, though the seats were off to the side. I'll probably see this just to get closer views from choice angles with easy access to popcorn.

Maybe this is a signal the demand is real. The theatre showing is overflow for those who cannot attend the live show (for whatever reason). A concession, not as a substitute
