I've set this up yesterday (thanks to your comment), converted a book using one of the paid options.

It was nice to see how it works in the storyteller app, but I did not quite like how i had to switch modes to rewind 30 seconds.

Today I tried loading up the converted book to BookFusion, and how it works there makes so much sense. Pressing back/forward just skips a sentence. I love this, it's better than Kindle's integration!

Now, looking at the costs. I've bought both the epub and the audio. Converted using a paid service to offload the CPU usage on my NAS. I would need a Bookfusion subscription to be able to upload 1GB files.

Moving away from Kindle/Audible and that ecosystem adds to the costs and I'm losing a lot of convenience. I want to stick to KOReader and the Storyteller app, and since both are open source, I'm sure some whispersync like service would be possible (KOReader Sync Server?) Ideally, this also syncs back to Calibre.

EDIT: I see there's discussion about KOReader sync and Calibre on the Discord. I'll dive into that!

Besides the usual PUBG and Fortnite with my gaming friends, I've been playing Arena Breakout: Infinite.
It's an extraction shooter like Escape From Tarkov, and it's been called a copy, but I feel it's way more accessible than EFT. It's still very unforgiving, but it's a nice change from battle royal games.

It feels like they are really listening to the player feedback, and I like how they go about their bans and getting a compensation when you were killed by one when he's eventually banned.

I just wish my friends would not have given up on it, cause it's pretty intimidating for the casual gamers like us.

But you have bitwarden, which is cross platform, supports the platforms you mentioned, and has passkey support?

I personally use 1password, which works on all the platforms you mentioned.

Keepass is getting there, with some effort it can work.

A yubikey or similar can work on all those devices.

I personally don't like to be tied into 1 platform or ecosystem, so I am not.

Having your 2fa code gen, or passkeys in a password manager, solves a lot of frustration.
Having a different username/email for every account makes it even better.
Put the time into finding what works for you!

Passkeys in general are great, but I get why people complain about it. The experience can be bad, especially when you just want it to work with the tools that you are using. Plenty of people don't even seem to want to understand it, and adding information to the places where you register a passkey doesn't help, people don't read these annoying steps, they just click.

Our 2FA solutions get phishing attacks all the time. People just give out their codes, or accept requests for logins, without actually initiating it themselves. Passkeys would definitely be better for users like that.

I'm a big advocate that schools should incorporate mobile phones in some classes rather than banning them. Kids should learn how to be online responsibly. Password management, basic security and why it is important.

Why would anyone ever attack me or try to get into my accounts, I am just a random person, I have nothing of value online. Then when their facebook is "hacked" and can't get it back, they'll cry cause they lost all these conversations/photos/history, while it's basically their own fault. And that's just the most common/basic example. It can be so much worse that actually has a huge negative impact on someone's life. I've seen situations where even I would shed a tear for some random person I don't know.

when you store them in chrome (Google Password Manager), you're pretty much covered. I think the only one lacking still is iOS, but that is planned, if not done already.

I'd suggest using something else like bitwarden or 1password that both support cross platform passkeys thanks to their browser extensions. And if you're on a new device, you can still use the QR code/BLE method.

There's nothing wrong with having multiple passkeys for convenience for apps that you frequently use, but when you go down that route you risk making it more complicated for yourself... what thing do I use to sign in here?

The problem is mostly that the default passkey location is not asked for when you start using it. There is also absolutely no explanation when you start using them, on how it can be used. In the end, when you configure it right, it's so much easier than anything out there.

Arena Breakout: Infinite (AB:I): It's something like Escape From Tarkov, but more accessible. I've never really enjoyed PvP games where you lose everything, I don't like the risk. For some reason this game works for me. A few sessions every night. Probably cause you start out with quite a lot of cash, and if you get the battle pass, you get a bunch of free Koen and gear to use. I've not yet run out, but I'm going into rounds with pretty cheap gear.

We've found a bunch of people to play with, some good, some not so good at the game, and we've had a lot of fun. Most of them seem to be very patient with casual players like me, and even like to hang out on our voice calls when we play other games like pubg, star citizen and even fortnite.

Some can't deal with the pressure of losing everything, and don't play anymore, but we've found middle ground in Delta Force that is more casual and arcade than AB:I.

I've fixed up my Steam Deck, and I'll be trying to play some single player games from my backlog the next coming weeks.

I had an amazing experience in Project Lockdown with a random group—it was pure luck finding them. They kept inviting me to join every time they played, and even now, I’d still be welcome in whatever game they’re into. Playing those kinds of games with the right people is an absolute blast. That said, every other session I’ve had in that game has been pretty awful, so perseverance is definitely key. It’s the same with squad fill in FPS games I enjoy; most matches are hit or miss. But when you finally connect with the right group, the games become so much more fun, and the time just flies by. Sometimes, some of those people even become real friends, which makes it all the more rewarding.

I’ve tried finding people through forums, but it rarely works unless you connect over a shared passion and end up chatting in DMs. For me, meeting people in games has been much more effective. I’ve got a longer story about how I struggled with loneliness—despite having a wife and kids—and not having close IRL friends. People often mock “virtual friends,” but over the past two years, I’ve made some truly great ones. It’s not for everyone, but this approach worked for me.

Usually, it starts with turning on voice chat in random squads for battle royales or extraction shooters. If we enjoy the match, we add each other, play more games, and sometimes move to Discord. Over time, those connections have grown into a small but meaningful group. The Discord I’ve built has been a space where friendships have formed and evolved, and I’m hopeful it will continue to grow. If I hadn’t been proactive about starting those conversations, it would’ve just been another random match.

I’ve been playing PUBG for about a month now, and I honestly wish I’d tried it sooner. Coming from Fortnite, I was skeptical—the graphics seemed outdated, and I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy the slower pace. But that pace is exactly what I’ve come to love. Every match feels intense, and it’s rewarding to outsmart opponents rather than relying on just fast reflexes.

The variety of strategies you can use is great, and even when I don’t win, I often come away with some great moments. The game offers an experience that feels more grounded and tactical compared to Fortnite. It’s less forgiving, but that challenge makes it all the more satisfying when you do well.

The game isn’t perfect, but I'm enjoying it.

I’ve traded in my e-golf after 6 years for a BMW iX.

I’ve always been happy with the golf. It had enough range to get to work (~100km highway) on any day, and have enough left to get to an emergency quick charger if charing at work was not possible. I got 160km on avg with my driving style.

It was the goto car in our household for everything besides long trips or big groceries. We also have a vw Tiguan.
We’ve considered trading in the Tiguan over the egolf, but the Tiguan is more practical for my partner. It seems to hold value better as well.

The iX I have now is a bit overkill, but the kids are old enough to start doing road trips. We did a 5k road trip through Italy and Germany last month with it and it was a pleasure.

    Project: Gorgon

I had this game wishlisted for the longest time, but then forgot what it was about.

I’ve played Asheron’s Call (AC) for a very long time, it was my first MMORPG and has made a lasting impression on me. Project: Gorgon (PG) captures some of the magic I felt with AC.
I don’t think it will ever be able to dethrone AC because nothing can best a great memory, but it is something else than your typical MMORPG.

It has a lot of fun skills that keep surprising me and that I’ve never seen in other games. You can almost be whatever you want to be/play.

I’ll be playing it for a while for sure, but many other great games are lurking around the corner that will be getting my attention (starfield, baldurs gate 3, …)

For some reason this popped into my mind when going through this thread. Most apps I loved back then were already mentioned. (Encarta, paint, dreamweaver).

I also loved Flash, mostly to create stuff. It was so easy, even to create games with physics. It is how I learned about physics in games.
