Having massive anxiety attacks right now, which partly result in me becoming really irritable to everything and everyone around me. Trying to make sure I don't snap but we have a return to office mandated 3 days a week that started today. I live two hours from my job (short drive, train, then walk - or drive 2.5 hours in rush hour traffic). In terms of parking fees and time I will be losing close to 2000 dollars and close to 600 hours (almost one month worth of time) to get to a job that already shafted on raises last year as they went up 2% and inflation went up 7%. So all in all this will cost me close to 10k and 600 hours.

I've got a second job coaching a sport to make ends meet (that I also love, and am trying to get into full time, but which is exceptionally hard to get into full time) that also takes up to 40 hours a week, sometimes 35, sometimes 60, depending on where our matches are and if it's a tournament or not.

My dog has a liver issue which means that even staying alone for 8 hours without going out is a force for him, and generally his meds cost a ton, as do his regular scans (spent about 8k on him just the last 18 months alone)

I'm applying to other jobs that are either closer or are remote, but they're not easy to find where I live - I live where I do because the city costs 4k a month for a one bedroom and that's just frankly absurd for a little box.

But I'm really stressed out and I'm not sure how I'm going to be a human while doing this without wanting to burn the entire place down.

If I quit either job I can't afford shit either so that's not an option. and id like to be able to propose to my girlfriend sometime soon but that's not exactly possible if I can't save fuck all

So yup that's where I'm at
Not as bad as some of the other mentions but it's really starting to get to me I guess

When I lived abroad I could make a trip of this distance like it was nothing

I work for a biotech company full time in seaport in Boston. I also have a second job on the side.

I still can't afford to live within a 30 minute radius of Boston (that radius turns into an hour with traffic)

I now live further out, closer to the woods and trails, which I love, for a lot cheaper. My company is demanding everyone go back to work 3 days a week -- that means each day I have a minimum 2 hour drive into the office. I would live closer if I could, but affordability wise I can't.

Driving in 3 days a week, paying for subsidized parking, paying for the gas I'll waste in traffic, and paying for the extra miles I put on my car, will run me a minimum of 6k a year. And that doesn't even take into account the fact that I'll be spending 4 to 6 hours a day in the car 3 days a week. My salary doesn't allow me to just waste 6k randomly. And since we've all proven that our jobs can be done without being in the office, or going in once or twice every two weeks as has been the norm, it seems ridiculous that I am now expected to spend my own money to go in while not being compensated adequately in return

I honestly don't know because a lot of small to midsize companies are also pushing RTO 3 days a week, and they don't pay as well.

Seeing a lot of people get really upset about dogs off leash in these comments which is kind of annoying. This is honestly a really American thing to be scared of every single creature in your path. Live in the Netherlands or England or Germany and people are fine with dogs just hanging out. I've been to restaurants where the dogs just hanging out under the table.

There's some common sense that goes into it -- don't let your dog off near cars or streets. If you're in the woods and your recall is good, go for it. I go to a park/woods near my apartment where dogs are explicitly allowed to be off leash. The amount of times some idiot walking through there has gotten mad because dogs are off leash around them in a place where they're allowed and supposed to be off leash is absurd.

It took about 5 months for my dog to be fine off leash pretty much anywhere. He comes when I call, doesn't go up to others without permission, and is pretty happy overall.

Also a big thing I've noticed in the US is that most people who own dogs do not exercise them nearly enough, which also leads to issues. If you've got a high energy dog, you have to be walking it for a while. My dogs much older now and he still needs a minimum 5 miles a day.

He gets that and he's always super calm.

America is entirely too big, and has too many cultural differences, to be governed as one country, and we are seeing that entirely now across the last 15 or so years. It would work far better if it was split into 4 or 5 smaller countries that are made up of a few states.

Netherlands controlled the game from 15 to 62 ish, but then had a good 15 minute period where they just looked rattled and the us started turning the screw. It was a really good match overall

Football/soccer has been using a ton of stats in the last 10/15 years, but you're right in the coverage so far they haven't really shown many for some reason. I'm not entirely sure why that is - the men's world cup coverage had the stats flashing across the screen almost the entire time

My mom has CFS. Came out of a bacterial infection combined with pneumonia and Lyme disease somehow - we still don't know.

Even getting a doctor to listen to her that something was wrong was torture. We went to 11 or 12 different specialists, did so many different tests, and 90% of them just told her nothing was wrong and it was in her head, to the point that she began to believe it, and think she was crazy. When we finally found a specialist who actually listened to her and agreed something was wrong, she burst into tears just from relief.

I've watched a woman who was ridiculously healthy and active, who used to play sports with me, go biking and hiking, loved being outside, turn into a shell. Some days even walking down the stairs means she has to sit down on the couch and take a 2 hour nap. And the mental toll this has taken on her is immense. It's really hard to see and to understand, even when I've seen her going through it for 4 or 5 years.
