This is a good advancement in destruction technology, but we still need efficient methods to get PFAS out of groundwater and the soil matrix.

Thank you for putting it this way. That's the point I was trying to get across - that people in the chain of command aren't deciding to put in the effort that the situation demands. I was trying to explain why people say they're making the decisions they do, not pass any judgment on where it was justified (it's not).

I wholeheartedly agree that this should be a separate process because "the good old boys" generally don't get it.

It's about damn time. No matter where anyone stands on this (regarding UCMJ/commanders 'losing' jurisdiction to maintain good order and discipline) you can't argue with handing it to an office whose whole job is to give due process on a reasonable amount of time. I think 90 percent of the problems the U.S. military has prosecuting these crimes aren't because the commander isn't taking it seriously or is grossly out of step with the legal consensus. It's because they are focused on getting their unit through a CTC rotation before deploying somewhere AND a million other things to include a multitude of smaller legal problems. Taking something off their plate is huge.

This is good for victims, this is good for commanders, and this is good for those who have been stuck in legal limbo waiting for their turn to get prosecuted for their crimes. They deserve a fair trial reasonably quickly and allocating these resources is what needed to happen 15 years ago. DoD better not mess up the implementation.

I almost abandoned librephotos all together trying to get it to run on bare metal. Do no recommend trying. It's the only thing I have in docker.

I've found this method easier for less tech-savvy family members. If they want to access anything at home all they do is open a WireGuard app and slide the button to 'On'.

This is spot on with my experience. I got stuck in the middle, put it down for a month or two, and then loved the last third when I picked it back up.

I find it really disappointing that most takes on this story (even from "experts") are either:

    • US Officials can't keep their mouths shut and are bragging
    • US is releasing this in order to escalate tensions and bring the world closer to an even larger conflict.

Neither of these fit the broader pattern of how the whole conflict unfolded, with coordinated releases of intelligence from various NATO-member agencies to both drive home that this is a long-planned RU operation to the public and conduct diplomacy in the open to make RU into a pariah state.
I think the more likely scenario is that this release is again coordinated with the same objectives, showing that the RU military is so weak that it cannot defend it's own high-ranking officers and therefore cannot project real power internationally (without nuclear weapons).
The quotes from Dept. of State and Pentagon officials match this line of thinking.
(Note, I view this similar to the killing of General Soleimani in Iraq, 2020, as a reminder that when it comes to blocs that can project military power, it's not even remotely close; NATO still dominates - even when other countries pull the trigger for them).

    • This puts countries like Brazil, India, and Gulf States on notice making them rethink security agreements and alignment going forward.
    • This shows China that they cannot be a direct party to a conflict anywhere in the world unless they want to risk being targeted by the west - and likely with massive losses. (Essentially maintaining the status quo).

    https://tinyurl.com/FAQ-aerosols

The goal of these FAQs is to provide information to the general public in an efficient manner about how to prevent aerosol transmission of COVID-19, with the hope that this will allow more informed decision making by individuals or organizations.

A well cited resource for the science behind, risks, and prevention measures for aerosol transmission put together by a well credentialed panel.

Five of us were speakers at the recent Workshop on Airborne Transmission of COVID-19, organized by the US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (the highest level scientific organization in the US). Three of us are members of a COVID-19 WHO expert group.

Aerosol transmission is something I hadn't heard CDC or the WHO address (the authors address why in the document). I've felt uncomfortable being near anyone unmasked, and been uneasy encountering mouth only maskers in stores - even though I was able to maintain 6-10 feet of distance. This document indicates that unease was well founded. As more and more research indicates that transmission isn't only from direct close physical contact, we as a society will need to update our strategy. It's about 60 pages with figures but is a pretty quick read.
