I suppose my view is colored by my training as an actor and not a scholarly one, but, I always found Shakespeare's works to be much more accessible when presented properly. Even doing them in the classical style, if played with clear intentions the words seemed to make so much more sense to an audience than the works of his contemporaries. I suppose that is what makes them so remarkable, and not the quality of the writing.

It’s like people in literary circles who want to bash Shakespeare. His works would not be that famous if they were not remarkable.

I have read through the books twice in my life. Once as a teen and the second time in my twenties. The first time I read the books rather ravenously with the exception of the songs and such. On my second read through I was more careful and took in every last drop.

The second time seemed to be more enjoyable, and I think like most pleasurable things you learn to savor those moments more as you mature. Sure I can eat this whole cherry pie in one sitting and enjoy it, or I can take my time and notice how the crust compliments and contrasts the tart cherries. That being said, I’m not a scholar and cannot speak to the quality of the prose.

I’m relatively new to DnD (been playing twice monthly for about a year), and I have to say it seems relatively malleable if you have the right DM. Our DM is having us play his home brew campaign in which our hometown backstories get worked into his world. So far it seems to be working, and he takes his time to work out things we may see as issues in the rules with us and makes his rulings in what seems a fair and balanced manner. I have been picking his brain because I eventually want to do my own home brew campaign and I find that the rules can be easily adapted provided everyone is amenable.

Yes and no. A lot of people who lived/live in the more affluent areas can definitely move. They don’t want to, but at that point why should my tax dollars be used to bail out people who live in remote canyons that are prone to fires? I heard a similar if not the same piece on KCRW that said a lot of the insurance companies aren’t renewing plans in certain areas even if the owner has made the house ‘wildfire resistant’.

I'm a Mac user myself, but have read recently that a bunch of Chromebooks make great Linux machines. They reach a point where they are no longer supported by Google software wise, so people have begun installing different Linux versions on them to extend their life. You might look into that, as I'm sure there are some decent machines out there that could be repurposed for cheap.

I have the joy of doing my civic duty and am attending jury duty. I am currently assigned to a seat in the box, but, they have already eliminated several jurors and am thinking I may not be up there very much longer.

Edit: Juror #5 checking in. I never realized how hard people fight to avoid jury duty when a man’s life hangs in the balance. I guess someone’s possible freedom or lifetime incarceration isn’t worth three weeks of another persons October.

Have you ever tried Dead by Daylight? That game is a pure salt mine. It is nearly impossible to win if everyone else on your team is a potato, but instead of having fun everyone doubles down. It's not even a 'competitive' game in that respect, there's no leagues or teams. The fandom regularly bashes each other on the official forums and Reddit. I really enjoy the game but absolutely get the frustration around the poor matchmaking and how it can tilt the game in one sides favor.

I will agree with this 99% of the time. I have (currently) one exception to this. I use Apollo for Reddit on my iPhone. I find that experience greatly outclasses the stock Reddit app. You can do everything on the free version except make posts. The creator of the app is one guy who has made the entirety of the app on his own. The reason he locked posting behind a paywall was so he can afford to eat, it's his full time job after all. There's something like 75% of all users not really posting anyway, so most people don't lose out. I have used that app more than any other and all I paid at the time was $3. Completely worth it in my opinion. He has a subscription model for people who would like push notifications as Reddit does not allow access to this to 3rd party apps. It also unlocks themes and alternate icons, but is not needed at all to use the app.

There's a bunch of 'culichi' joints in and around my neighborhood and I cannot fathom why anyone would waste their time on that 'sushi' instead of going to a legit sushi restaurant with a properly trained chef. I've never been a huge fan of mariscos (we didn't eat seafood growing up), but find the idea of cream cheese on everything offensive.

My favorite games growing up were the Sierra games that evolved from the text based games that had come before. You still had almost all of the freedom of typing out what you wanted to do in the text parser, with some limitation as they were not going to 'animate' every conceivable action. You could try just about anything with what you had on hand, and if you did something that failed you usually got a good laugh out of it.

Am American, live in a major West Coast city, and I can say for certain around here most people aren't gun owners/collectors or particularly vocal about gun ownership. I'm particularly left leaning and feel that a compromise can be made (like safe storage of the weapon or ammunition, better background check system, maintenance and private sales requirements), but you'll get shouted down on most US dominated websites by a few keyboard warriors who think it's a requirement to stay armed in case the government comes to take you in the night. I feel like a lot of the time it's (tinfoil hat time) staged by the same people who look to sow discord amongst us around things like universal healthcare, and why the wealthy should pay more taxes than they do.

    Edit: a word.
