mentionranted about in the previous thread. I want to preface that Sandrock is still in early access and the dev did gave a release date (November 2023)(I have my doubt that they can keep that deadline but I do believe they will release the game). I also want to say that I do love the previous game and I am somewhat wary of this one because they have improved the characters model and changed the setting from more fairy tale/studio Ghibli vibe to western. But I can safely say that the charm is still in it.
The major difference between the two games are its character models. They are now more proportional then the bauble head of the previous game (which I adore)(but one must not get in the way of improvements)(even if it means accepting changes).
Despite the upgrade in textures, the charms of the NPCs are still there. Each one of them are distinct and I always loved their stories. Now the dev has added your character stories in as well. Your in game parents and friends that you left behind will send you well wishes and updates through the mail and you could reply as well!!! Both are sorely missing in the previous game.
The great:
However the other gameplay are nothing but improvements. Majority of the pain points of the previous game has been removed
for eg. You needing to have the specific items in your hand for assembly station,
sprinting uses up endurance,
combat being button mashing (although Sandrock still has it, its been improved by giving players more weapon type and improving the enemies AI and giving each enemies distinct behaviours and pattern)(however it is still simple combat)(eh what do you expect ¯\_(ツ)_/¯).
The good:
Other improvements
The entirety of the UI have improved drastically as well. I still open up the menu and surprised myself at how much more organised it is.
The meh:
The combat is still a drag due to how simple it is, there are too little at stake, you cannot lose and the gameplay is too simplistic for it ever be engaging. But then again that is not where game shines. The stamina management has become worse somewhat, it doesn’t increase as you level up and this encourages you to decorate your house. However, the lack of food items to replenish your stamina is what I am complaining about. I miss that in Portia, the game just gave you too much food.
Lack of gift, I used to be able to buy flowers in Portia and gifted them out willy nilly. I am seeing lack of universal gift in the game.
The panbat eyes!!!! This one irks me the most as I am so used to just staying up late and passes out wherever and be teleported back onto my bed. I could have just chop trees or mine all night long when most NPCs are in bed and don’t need to worry whether or not I could get back in time. (Cuz usually I don’t)
Give me my stable!! Don’t hide it behind mid game tier items.

A "farming sim" or life sim in the same vein as Stardew Valley and, more accurately, Graveyard Keeper. You play as a builder, inheriting your pa's old workshop. Your goal is to just live life as you see fit, meet the townsfolk and go on an adventure.
The game has a certain charm and goofiness and a bit janky and slightly unpolished (despite the shine). There are tons of things to not like the game and yet it managed to hold me in its grasp. Being in the same genre as Stardew Valley and Graveyard Keeper, the main gameplay loop is to do commissions as your main source of income and to increase relationship points with the townies, gather resources (you will do lots of this) and chatting with the surprisingly decent-fully voiced NPCs and there are dozens of them. This is not a village, its a small town.
As you go through the game, befriending the NPCs and learning about their personalities, stories and desires, you will unlock their quests at each stage of your relationship. For me, this is the highlight of the game. I like to learn about the NPCs and getting to know them. Eventually, I learned the schedule of most of the townsfolk, their routines and have learned where they lived snuck into their homes at some point.
The game main grind for me is its resource gathering. You need to deforest the entirety of Portia multiple times over the period of the game. There days in game where I would chop trees from one end of the map to the other end, from dawn to dusk and throughout the night until I passed out. Only to do it again the next day. Once all trees are sufficiently chopped and nary in sight, I turn my attention to pickaxing the mines (or the abandoned ruins as this game calls them) for metals like copper, iron and sofas (for gifts of course). Equipped with a jetpack and scanner, I turn my sight to clear the mines of all its resources to fuel the factory that is in my yard. Once you have enough of passing out in the mines, you can turn your attention to the dungeons (or Hazardous Ruins) for that few rare items you could only get there. Clearing it out of human sized rats, dog sized snails and jumping fishes and impses before meeting their giftwerfer wielding bosses. All of this satisfies the townsfolk need for stuff.
There is a main storyline for the game (aside the massive need for the exploitation of natural resources) and it is the growth and development of the Portia. The town will slowly grow its sphere of influence, from building bridges and expanding the harbor. Being a
unlicensed/unqualifiedbuilder, you are tasked to build all sorts of parts and infrastructure, from the Dee-Dee (a tuk-tuk) to bridges, cranes and hot air balloons. Along the way, you will follow through the setbacks and delays that often plagues the modern construction industries, uncovering the mysterious conspiracies that reared its head halfway through the game (I haven't finished the game yet so no spoilers please). As well as unlocking new diagrams and resources to finish more advance and special commissions.I played this game around their 1.0 release in 2019. I remembered enjoying it the first time I played it. Logged just shy of 70hrs by the end of my first play through until life gotten busy and I just never picked it up. However, last weekend I had a minor surgery (toenail removal) and suddenly gotten a long weekend where I am suddenly free, saw the second game is coming out and the itch of playing the game came back. So I downloaded the game for the first time in years and... I already doubled the hours played. (128hrs now).

Been hearing great things about his books and this is as good as any to start off.
[Rant]
It is ridiculous hard, more than it should, to find fantasy books in my region of the world. Had to buy it and get it imported from Amazon. But my issue right now is that don’t have the time to read the books I bought and have to find the odd 5-10 mins in between work to read a chapter. Reading between zero to one chapter a week and lately been too busy at work to read. -

A lone wolf.
It was my first time playing the game, knew nothing about it before hand and had played other CRPG games like Tyranny and Pillars of Eternity. I made my character to be socially inept that I genuinely thought that this game had a unique twist of the usual CRPG that you have to rely on your own character skills only to get through the game. I was over halfway through the game, effectively making use of stealth and traps or avoiding fights all together to go through the games. Solo. No companions. Only then I realise that the game expected me to have at least one other person. But by then I have zero in charisma and cannot get anyone else to join me.
At least I gotten the lone wolf achievement that (afaik) had less then 1% of people got. Again I don’t know if I had enjoyed the game more, but I certainly finished it.

Whilst I rarely eat fruits, the ones I eat are mostly western fruits like apples and oranges and less of my local fruits like papaya and “nanas”. This is simply due to the lack of exposure to them and overexposure of western shows/movies/cartoons growing up. I am planning to rectify this now.

I know that I could buy an xbox series x and just play it on that since I still own the original 360 disc (and I plan to, however life has another plan for me). I miss the atmosphere of the game the most there hasn’t been any game like it since. There is something magical about its settings and story, even though I admit that I am seeing it through the red tinted glasses of nostalgia. Nevertheless, I want the remake of all three games, especially Fable 2 since that is the best and the most difficult to find. (
Lionhead StudioFable 2 was never ported to Steam but Fable 1 Remastered and Fable 3 did as far as I know). Admittedly, I want the remake of the trilogy just as a way to preserve a part of my childhood.Edit: I forgot to mention there is a game that sort of recreated part of the charm of the game on steam named Kynseed. If I recall correctly, it was made by ex-Lionhead Studio developers. Its a Stardew Valley-esque game with (this is with my limited testing the game but I haven’t fully invested my time in it yet) the charm of the Fable series. It was the music and the feel of the game that reminded me so heavily of Fable.

I am always interested in it, I have seen several youtubers played some of the more popular ones and yet I can never get into them. Some examples of metroidvania that I have seen/attempted are Dandara, Sundered, Momodora, Ori, Hollow Knight, Dead Cells just to name a few. They seemed so enjoyable to play and I enjoyed watching others playing them but I just cannot get into it for some reason. I just accepted that this is a popular genre that I just cannot get into and move on with my life. There are already too many games in genres that I am obsessed with, so cutting a huge chunk of games I won't be able to enjoy will only help me enjoy what I already like. i.e. turn based combat like X-Com and Xenonauts.
I will say that I do appreciate that other genres exists because everyone should have a game that they enjoy.

I’d say for these two, they are more host focus, I enjoyed listening to the banter between the hosts as they (attempt to) give the weekly happening in gaming industry.
If you want more focus on news and slightly more in depth, I also would recommend this gaming news youtuber that popped in my homepage one day. BellularNews. Other than this, there are other channels, mentioned above, like SkillUp that I listened to on occasion.

A dungeon crawler set in sifi theme that have you racing through rooms to escape your captivation. Its uses fairly straighforward d6 dice system, easy to pick up and play. Minimal set up and more fun with more people. I played with three others from my local game store and had a blast playing through it. I'd say, its worth exploring through and trying out.

Valorant
An online FPS, 5v5 similar to Counter Strike but focuses more on agents' abilities and utilities similar to Overwatch. This is my first time playing any online FPS games of any form. Internet in my country has been...meh and I never had any friends to play with. Until one of my secondary classmate contacted me years after and asked me to play with him (before he left me to play Rainbow 6: Siege). I have gotten hooked on the game and even went out of my way to improve my skills. (its still terrible but I could carry my weight). I love the gun play, despite the frustration. Making stategies and plays that only work 1 out of 10 times, but always funny to try. Needless to say, its my go to game whenever I want to play something quick and easy. I have been playing it almost daily since Killjoy was released, which was almost 3 years now.
Deep Rock Galactic
This was a death of a thousand cuts experience. I have known about this game for years and only heard good things about it. I got recommendations from the youtubers that I watched, podcasters that I listened and even from the DM when I played DND. And that last one was the straw that broke the camel's back as I saw the game on sale on Steam. Gotten >30 hours within the two/three weeks of purchase. Which is a lot for me with busy schedule and all. The main thing that drew me in is just how friendly and nontoxic the player base is. I know that Valorant is not the most toxic games but its day and night when I compared it.
Dying Light 2
The more recent purchase I gotten was Dying Light 2. I only bought it last week at the time of writing. I am excited for the game since I enjoyed the first game, but the reviews really made me hesitant. I finally cracked when the itch to play the game became overbearing. Now that I have played it for a bit (only >7 hours, again due to having busy schedule), I agree with the reviews saying that the game is still lacking a lot, but I enjoyed the game and atmosphere still. I do not like some of the game elements, but the core gameplay is still the same (albeit degraded somewhat). At the end of the day, I enjoyed the game and that is what matters to me. I can always stop when the fun stops.

I'd say do enjoy the first game thoroughly before jumping into Dying Light 2 (DL2) because most reviews online says that the first game is better overall whilst DL2 is lacking something. I am currently playing DL2, and I agree with it. I do intend to stick with it though since I do love the parkour in these games. (So far 7+ hours in the first week of playing. Could've been more but I have work and other hobbies that took my time)

I'd say its short and I do want it to be a bit longer, only having four biomes and four more alternate level in each biome with slightly different mechanic. I even went and gotten all the achievements because of how short the game is. However, I do love the ending after finishing the first four biomes. I think it's a fitting ending.

We randomly picked a selection of board games and ended up spending almost the entirety of the afternoon on just the Detective board game.
We managed to collectively figure out how to play the game and managed to solve the first case.... with a pass. Note, we are not avid game board players, and this is our first time getting together to play a board game. Despite all that, we enjoyed discussing and figuring out how to solve the case. Even pulled out our tablets to write notes and connecting clues, we enjoyed the process of weaving together a plausible theory. Would definitely try out the rest of the cases if we have the chance.

The organisational system should fit your workflow, priority and how you brain. And you can always pick apart a system and take what works and patch it your system. Another thing is your system may change as you grow, what I used during uni is drastically different than what I use now, and I expect it to change in the future.
I am not ADHD, but I’ll share my current system. Its a combination of sticky notes, notes and calendars. Tasks that is important and urgent and needed to be done in within a week, is put in a very important pile. With sticky notes for instructions or labelling. Notes is used for reference information and calendars is used to block out my time for the near future. (Think a week or two ahead). Now the downside of this system is that I do not have a centralised place for all these datas. I have scattered physical notes, some stuff on my phone and some on my work pc. But broadly speaking, work tasks stays at work place and personal tasks stays on phone or google drive. I tried using a planner but that is just one more place for me to scatter my notes in. I could have organise all of this but…. Its good enough.

And I have tabulated my own spreadsheet grouped by mapmaking/dungeon making, worldbuilding and VTT and other tools that may or may not be useful. However work got in the way and I have yet to go in deep dive to any of these.

I started to hate lugging it around because of how bulky and (relatively) heavy it is. I secured myself a job after uni, saved up for over a year and treated myself to a prebuilt pc. It was a decent mid spec pc but miles better than my old laptop. It is my genuine belief that this pc will be my forever pc with upgrades along the way.
I have another recommendation in the same veins of the games you listed here. My Time at Portia and its soon to release second game (currently in early access) My Time at Sandrock.
Both games are chill and cozy games that has their own brand of charms to them. Its less farming related but there are farming involve, albeit more simplified and not the focus of the game. Instead you play as the role of a builder, in charge of creating stuff for the NPCs. Its a cozy game with no time pressure (
unless you are like me and likes to create super efficient workshops that can churn out items and finish commissions within the day of accepting them)(I recommend to just enjoy the relaxed nature of the game and to go at your own pace when playing these games)
