I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought Oppenheimer wasn't the best thing since sliced bread. Going into it after reading all the reviews I was expecting some pinnacle of storytelling. While I still enjoyed it and the performances were very good (RDJ was a standout, IMO), I definitely don't think it's in my top ten of all time.

Recently watched Napoleon and was really underwhelmed. I was going in with it as my most anticipated film of the year and it really just fell flat. The visuals- costumes, the grand sweeping shots of the battles- were all great, but the story felt chopped up and confused. Several times my fiance and I had to pause and kind of reset to make sure we were all squared away on who was who. While granted we're not history buffs so we were maybe reading Wikipedia articles about the French Revolution during pauses, I thought Scott didn't really have a vision for what he wanted to do, it just felt unfinished.

I'm really hoping this too, especially since they're releasing it earlier than initially planned.

hopefully the game is ready for release and not a buggy mess

I'm thinking I should start from the ground up, base a character on origin or background and then build the class and proficiencies around that. But even then I'm flip-flopping ideas.

That's pretty much what I'm going to do, and honestly if it doesn't work out and the class/background I chose is boring, I'll just roll another character! I don't think that playing around with a bunch of different classes/races is a bad idea

I'll be playing as a stereotypical criminal human rogue, mostly because I like sneaking around and dual wielding, who is aligned maybe lawful evil (planning, scheming to get what he wants) but I want to eventually bring back to good because he realizes how much his previous life has hurt other people.

I'm interested to see what you all will be playing, and what you're most excited about!

What are you using to do this? I have a Jellyfin server set up through caddy and the idea of hosting my own music sounds great.

I'm curious, I've been wanting to get into home networking recently- are you running that server on a raspberry pi? Any resources where you or someone else could point me to would be great!

He also borrowed from Qatar and a Saudi prince it seems. Via Bloomberg:

A subsidiary of the sovereign wealth fund of Qatar contributed $375 million in exchange for shares of Musk’s holding company.

Regulatory filings show the Saudi prince moved almost 35 million Twitter shares through the Kingdom Holding Co., worth about $1.9 billion at the $54.20 per share sale price. That made him the “second-largest investor” in the new parent company.

Yeah this is my feeling too. Especially with the new "X" branding- he has been chasing this idea of an "everything company" for years, and his diverse portfolio reflects that in a way. Someone on twitter had mentioned that he was voted off of Paypal because he wanted to change the domain/branding to "x.com", so to a lot of people its no surprise that he's back with this to finish that goal.

The guy is a complete egomanic, he thinks he's the smartest person in the room, and there are enough yes-men around him that he is completely detached from reality.

Dude yes!! Well done, I read your post the other day and it was remarkably similar to my experience (mediocre player, unsure of what to do exactly) and I'm so happy that you guys had a great time. As I've DM'd more and more, I find it actually super rewarding and as fun as playing as a character. Setting up story bits and holding in your excitement when your players are super close to reaching a goal you've planned is incredibly enjoyable.

    Good shit!

Curious to see if there are any other sports sim fans around here. If you're not familiar with the genre, the two most popular and longest running are APBA Baseball/Football/Hockey and Strat-O-Matic Baseball/Football/Hockey. Personally, I'm a big fan of Second Season Football and I'm playing with Back to Minnesota's 1965 season so I can bring Jim Brown and Cleveland back to glory!

If you've never heard of this before, think of these games as "story generators" where you can play two teams against each other and see how close the dice rolls and stats get to real life. I play as a sort of chill night where I listen to a baseball game or a podcast with a cup of coffee. Throwing dice around and watching Jim Brown plow through some poor defense is really enjoyable :)

You can also play head to head with another player! I highly recommend a smaller game like Pocket Pennant Run if you're interested in diving into games like this. A similar game would be Stone Cold Hockey for hockey fans and Fast Drive Football for football nerds like myself.

The biggest communities online are definitely the Delphi Forums for Tabletop Sports as well as the Digital to Dice Podcast Facebook page.

Digital versions of the APBA and Strat games exist, and there is a huge fanbase for the Action! PC Games, and a hugely popular game is Out of the Park Baseball which has simulator-like features but is mostly a baseball management game.
