Anime/manga that inspired you to pick up a new hobby or something similar?
Something that you watched/read that made you think "I am going to get into this." What anime/manga was it, and what was the hobby/whatever?
I liked playing go before I saw hikaru no go, but now one will make we want to play/watch the other. I also made croissants after watching yakitate Japan. Not the way it’s done I the show though
Remarkable! Yakitate started me into baking as a lifelong hobby, and the Bread Baker's Apprentice sealed the deal. It's still one of my favorite animes of all time, and it still holds up well today imo.
How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift made working out seem a lot more fun. I tried to do the exercises they coached you through at the end in addition to my regular workouts.
Lots of anime made me wanna do things. But Go is hard (Hikaru no Go), I don't think I should become a illegal car racer (Initial D), and there aren't many openings for post apocalyptic science genius :P (Dr. Stone).
I suppose Dragon Ball Z and Cowboy Bebop were one reason I trained taekwondo, but in reality the release of Kill Bill was the main reason for that.
Initial D inspired me to buy a sim racing setup - which ended up kinda being a waste of money because I don't use it that much
Initial D got me to talk about “FF” and “FR” cars in online forums which would usually get some comment like “what the hell is an FF car?” and that would usually get some reply like “I had no idea so I spent 20 minutes researching it and…”
Kids on the Slope came out a formative time for me when I was still taking music lessons. The show is a coming of age story about a classical pianist who discovers Jazz through an unlikely friend.
The show is a big reason why I love Jazz. I've probably listened to Art Blakey's rendition of Moanin' hundreds of times. The jazz standard is a recurring theme of the show, and Art Blakey's record is the main character's introduction to the genre. After I watched the show, it was a big motivator for me to branch out musically, learn how to play by ear, learn about Jazz, and play in a couple (non-professional) bands.
None of these are really in the spirit of the question, but they were the first things that came to mind. These were when I was very young and impressionable:
Watching Super Cub made me immediately go out and buy a Super Cub (c125) and get my motorcycle license.
I read this comment and watched the first episodes. I gotta say that does look amazing. What kind of model did you get? I am currently not in my home country (I am working remotely from Spain) but I am thinking of maybe doing a motorcycle license when I am home as well. - I already thought about it this year when driving around in Thailand with a scooter.
I got the 2023 super cub c125, new (it had 2 miles on it when I started my ride home from the dealership). It’s probably a far cry from what koguma has, which seems quite vintage. The starter is electric, no kickstart. Fuel injected. ABS front brake. Oh, and keyless entry with alarm system. This is all standard.
First thing I put on it was a rear rack and a big box in the back. Currently looking for a front basket.
I also use a classic 3/4 helmet with yellow gloves (just like what koguma uses).
This has been quite an expensive cosplay lol
Well, it hasn't happened yet, but shows like SAO have ensured that as soon as VR becomes a more mature technology, I'll be first in line to jump in one.
Also found this guy's awesome videos while searching for a good version of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata thanks to watching Eminence in Shadow: https://youtu.be/sbTVZMJ9Z2I?si=6yOD-6AeFUTSwKRy
It wasn't really a mahjong anime that inspired me to pick it up as much as seeing it in the background of animes I was actually into.
