Congrats to Matt Dinniman, I suppose, but it kind of sucks that it's going to be siloed to Overdrive's walled garden. My library system doesn't use Libby, we have access to Cloud Library and Hoopla, and I'm not thrilled about the exclusive nature of these apps - it seems to go against the whole ethos of public libraries, although I know that libraries are in a difficult spot when it comes to ebooks.

Unfortunately seems to be his modus; as of now, the ebook is only available for purchase from the highly-walled-garden kindle ecosystem. I don't really know anything about the author as a person, but I doubt he's intentionally keeping these exclusive. But I imagine he's been swept away by the sudden crazy success, and isn't super concerned about accessibility, and probably he (or his agents) are getting sweetheart deals for the exclusivity

I believe he was initially only published via Amazon as a Kindle exclusive. Those are really restrictive contracts, not really "sweetheart deals". With him getting a broader publishing deal based on how these have gone in the past, the old ebook version will get yanked and it'll get republished on more platforms.
Looking it up though he may continue to self publish the ebooks if his Penguin subsidiary deal isn't inclusive of that. :/

Still hoping for the best though, its a super fun series, and the audiobook is a blast!
Honestly, I'd respect them more for going 70's B-movie quality practical effects than bad CGI. It would feel more true to the incredible intersection of gonzo science fiction and deep humanity...

I've read the first two books, but they are so quick to read (literally a one day read if I have the free time) that I hate to spend the money on the hard covers, which is all that is available for most of them. The wait list for the next book at my library is over 200 deep. My ebook reader can't install apps, so even though my library does support Libby, this does me no good. The books are fun though, so I do recommend them if you can make use of this.
They're just getting a regular publishing run iirc so hopefully paperbacks come after the hardbacks. Definitely more of a collectors thing but I'm seeing it with a number of authors who want to go...

Another author on RR just highlighted their hardcover release too!
I think I saw recently that DCC will get a paperback run. If I recall, I recommended Apocalypse Parenting to you a few months back - they're also getting a traditionally published book!

I read the whole thing! It was very good. I've been on a bit of a binge lately so please toss more recs if you have them. What's cool is this, DCC and My Life as a Max Level Archmage (which is...

What's cool is this, DCC and My Life as a Max Level Archmage (which is really good as well, especially for the title) all have different publishers, meaning there's a breadth of smaller imprints working with indie/non-traditonal authors on more traditional publishing options it seems like!
I feel like, if it’s only a technical limitation preventing you from accessing it on the device you prefer via libby, it’s very easy to download an epub.

Probably a good move given the upcoming TV show, the more readers the better.

I'm thinking a Sam Raimi "Evil Dead"-esque vibe would be perfect.

I've purchased book 1 and 2 in paperback within the last few weeks. Large print, but whatev

Did you check library genesis? I can tell you for sure it is on there.
I have not, thanks!

I highly doubt that, but there are some shady mirrors and impostor sites out there for sure.

Libby has waitlists too and if it's that popular for the physical copy, it's probably popular for the digital copy.
