Graphics glitch on new install of Ubuntu
So I have an old MacBook Pro (mid-2014) Core i5 which I've just installed Ubuntu 22.04.2 on. Most things are working fine but the screen randomly flickers and then goes black and then after varying lengths of time will pop back on again. I've been googling around and found lots of instances of similar graphics glitches but can't quite find a solution.
Any suggestions?
Its so weird to see this post. I just slapped Linux mint with Gnome onto a 2015 macbook and it runs like a dream. I can use old hardware and it hardly shows its age.
It sounds like the ribbon cable running to the screen is either loose or damaged. See if it happens when you move the computer around.
Or it may be some weird voltage setting to the screen that is messed up. Try turning off automatic screen brightness and adjusting it manually.

Have you had any issues with temperature control? The few times I put mint onto older MacBook they all hit temps of 90c within minutes. I was o lying able to get it slightly under control by installing some kind of fan control program. I'm being vague as this was over 3 years ago and am still looking for a better solution. Or perhaps mint has it fixed now?
The top two links under the following link contain two (different) solutions. You can try them: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=tuxedo+gen+6+flicker+ubuntu+22.05+grub&t=iphone&ia=web
Thanks, I had found the first one too. Seems to have worked!
Maybe some driver weirdness? Swap to non-free drivers, see if that helps.
