I love this article! I think it's so interesting that the imagery of butterflies is the dead, insect collection version. And it's not just in professional illustrations and things, but even in simpler, icon styles the way we draw butterflies is in the perpendicular way. Even fairy wings, whether they're based on butterfly wings or not, sit at that perpendicular view. It's just such a pervasive design that's everywhere, but once it's pointed out it's like, oh. Oh no. I read this article the first time a few years ago and now it's something I notice. I like the arc of the wings as they sit when butterflies are alive, and would like to see that more incorporated into other designs.

I shall pass this knowledge on so everyone who loves butterflies has this same pet peeve of seeing dead butterflies everywhere. Hehehehe 😈

While I now may be unable to look at my pretty butterfly keychain from Costa Rica the same way, I think this will give me a greater appreciation for depictions of live butterflies.
