I just had the first Kvikk Lunjs of my life this week, during a hike in Norway. I expected it to be just a KitKat. It is a little bit better than a KitKat, but I do think the reason these vikings love it so much is more nostalgia than the actual product (on a hike you might as well eat banana).
I looked into the history of Freia, the company that makes Kvikk Lunjs, and it seems it was acquired by Monedez in 1993. Can any Norwegian tilderono that has tried pre 1993 Kvikk Lunjs confirm if that changed the quality?
The article mentioned an early dark chocolate version of it, and I kinda wanna try it...
Im more of a dark chocolate kind of guy so my interests lay in that direction as well.
Its definitely just a cultural thing wrapped around a hit of sugar and desire to continue living post-treat. Im into it, sometimes i pack a snack (or a top of the mountain beer) and look forward to enjoying it at the high point of the hike, in a new place.
Fun read, thanks for sharing OP i just recently learned about the kvikk lunsj from a magnus midtbo collab video so this was a neat followup.
Absolutely love Kvikk Lunsj! On the surface it may look like a KitKat but in my opinion, it's better. I like the chocolate they use more than KitKat too, has a nicer flavor without being overly sweet
