we played mafia a lot on the old school forums. i miss that, it will not really be possible here, as there is now way a forum stays private to just some users

Great! I live in gmt+1, so while it would be a bit tricky to set up, I can definitelly see that happen. I'll let you know about the outcome; we would need at least 5 players (8 at best).

Secret Hitler was my favorite game to play with largish groups of people a couple years back. Really fun game that avoids most of the big problems inherent to mafia.

Secret Hitler mostly cuts out the middle man by having special events occur naturally throughout the game and their decision falling to whoever happens to be voted president.
Lots of people are trying their hand at writing automation of various kinds for Mafia now, though. But yeah, some downtime is inevitable, if only to plan and plot as mafioso's should.

Night time discussion in Mafia is typically just downtime for roles that don't have a night action or group meeting, like Vanilla Townies. I'm also approaching mainly from a forum/web based mafia...

I'm also approaching mainly from a forum/web based mafia viewpoint. I have very rarely played mafia IRL, unfortunately.
It being the point doesn't make it immune to being a design flaw; in fact, that's what makes it a design flaw by definition, since it was designed that way and the design is itself flawed. Being...

Look interesting, reminds me a little of Werewolf/Mafia.

You, @Soptik and @CrazyOtter might be interested in Town of Salem, a video game inspired by the deception-style games (Mafia, Werewolf etc).
I would be in if it was around 5-10 PST. I have work on the weekends.

What would you say those big problems are?

#1 Problem is that people get eliminated and don't get a chance to play the game. In Secret Hitler, almost nobody actually gets eliminated.
I would say that's very much the point of the game and thus not a design flaw.

Great! I hope we can get more players. I'll try to get few of my friends into the game if we don't get enough players here.

Still not the most lost person on tildes right now.
Have fun with your spring cleaning.
