Beat Saber thread

I just wanted a pretext to share my first successful Expert+ song on 150% speed + Ghost Notes :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HQIvNCF9RA (two-part video, first half on Ghost Arrows, second half on Ghost Notes)

I got back into Beat Saber a week ago after a 2 months hiatus. I like the new OST and mechanics and I love the new Fall Out Boy DLC. Highly recommend it!

Has anyone else been playing it lately?

I'm working on opening a VR arcade in Brussels and thinking of promoting Beat Saber quite a bit there :)

I have been playing - I play on Expert only so far. My foray into Expert+ has not been met with much success. I haven't really been doing too much with the modifiers either. It's great fun, though! I haven't picked up Fall Out Boy, but I greatly enjoyed both Gaga and Green Day. I found Imagine Dragons to be a bit blah, but my kids really wanted that one, so those are the three that I own.

I did get the updated free music pack when it came out and I love the mechanic where you have to follow the line between cuts.

I hope your VR arcade works out!

FOB uses that a lot and to its full extent. I posted gameplay videos here:

(aside: oh yes, it is one of the comments in the link you shared)

I play almost every week for fun and cardio, though I'm not as good as you (probably will never be). My objective is usually good cut score rather than completion; I hate repetition, so I tend to keep away from maps that don't have a difficulty level I can complete immediately, and I rarely retry a song (if I fail for non-stupid reasons I move on and get back around to it in a month or so). I don't really do modifiers either. Boring, I know!

Though I'm not in any way shape or form a streamer, I stream my sessions on twitch so friends or random passers by can show up once in a blue moon to make the experience slightly more social and/or recommend new maps. A good half of the maps in my library have been recommended by people in this manner. I'm very lazy about looking for maps myself. Anyone here is welcome to drop by one of these days, you can mock me for my incompetence and I will mock you back for your poor taste in maps ;)

I haven't played but I'm wondering which VR systems work well for it?

I have an Oculus Quest 2 and it plays quite well. Bang for buck, it's hard to beat the Quest 2, IMO, but you do have to deal with Facebook/Meta, so it's a dealbreaker for some.

Seconding what @aphoenix said about the Quest. If you compare it to something like a Valve Index you will absolutely notice the difference in tracking speed and precision, but the Quest is impressively close given that the PC + Index setup is about 8x the price. It's also got a much better UX to just pick up and play - there are a lot of little rough edges that make SteamVR seem like more of an effort; it's much more capable and flexible, which matters for something like HL: Alyx, but Beat Saber is a simple enough concept that it doesn't really benefit.

I'm concerned about them being a core Zuckerberg product nowadays, and they're effectively cornering the market to do shady things with it later, but they're succeeding because the value proposition is pretty much unbeatable in the current market.

Most if not all of them. It was originally developed for the first/original PCVR headsets, and in addition to what aphoenix wrote it's quite literally owned by Facebook these days, plus John Carmack is a huge fan so it's guaranteed to work on the Quest.

These things scale though. I recommend a good PC if you want to play with a high resolution, high framerate, many mods and/or performing hardware-straining tasks like encoding youtube videos of gameplay at the same time...
