Anyone like Pokemon Go?
I had this game on my phone for awhile but only just started last night. So far I think it's neat what kinds of landmarks can be pokestops, like a little fountain by a restaurant or a very old building. It also reminds me of those pokewalker things from long ago, the ones that counted your steps. It also kills me when a church is a gym.
Now I'm not walking everywhere or buying plane tickets trying to do this but it's pretty pleasant so far. What are your thoughts, Tildes?
Edit: I took my first gym at a quaint little church and the Nidorino I left there came back about 6 hours later. There's more people playing this than I realized, also more churches lol.
Had a good time initially but then the server issues and lack of p2p battles turned me off. Also the fact that it's basically ingress made it less new and shiny to me
Level 34 here. My girlfriend got me into it about 10 months ago. It's a silly little thing for us to do together. Living in NYC makes it pretty easy. Hundreds of pokestops within an easy walk.
That sounds like a great time. Where I am the app is good for finding neat little landmarks here and there. My friends and I have visited a couple new places thanks to Pokemon Go.
I was into at first, but one Midwestern winter killed my enthusiasm. If you love somewhere with year round good weather then it could remain fun.
I played it for a few hours back when it first launched, but it wasn't for me. I do like the mainstream Pokemon rpg games, and the other night a game that looks like it will sit somewhere between the two was announced, called Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu (or Eevee, since they're making two versions) for the Nintendo Switch. I'll probably give that a look once more information comes out.
I must confess, I've been playing Pokemon Go for way too long. It's something fun to do on long walks, which I love to take. It feels non-intrusive and I don't feel manipulated by the app to buy in-game stuff.
I live here and there around the world, so it's fun to catch regional exclusives, as well as see from where all those Pokemon in my collection are coming from. So far I've got Pokemons from 7 different countries.
Aww, c'mon. Gyms aren't an endorsement of whatever the gym is. It just means these are popular spots that have been flagged as such.
Oh no, I don't have a problem with church. I just thought it was funny. There's going to be bored folks with phones during mass fighting gym battles, ect.
Haha! Never thought of that. I'm sure it must make mass a lot less boring, plus players would look like they're praying with their heads down to stare at their phones. :D
Exactly! And you just know the father is the one holding down that gym when he's not on duty lol.
At first it was fun because everyone was playing; you could just walk down the street and talk to other people who were playing it. Other than that, the game was really shallow and wasn't any fun from the gameplay perspective.
I played Ingress (Niantic's first game) much, much more than Go, especially a few years ago when there were lots of community events in my city. It's a much more in-depth, both in terms of gameplay and the incredible lore/story that was slowly unfolding. I'm really excited for Ingress Prime, the sequel/big update that they teased a few months ago, which I'm sure will help rejuvenate the community.

Oh cool, that's a bit more interesting than GO. Thanks.
I had a great time playing it when it first came out, but it drained my phone's battery too quickly and was too dependent on cellular data for me to keep up with it. If those aren't an issue, I say more power to you! One thing I remember being a lot of fun was using the lure powders at two near locations and walking back and forth- good for you, too.
I think I'm getting back into it! Sadly I live in a rural area which makes it quite hard to find many pokestops...
I had a ton of fun a few years ago when it came out. Haven’t touched it in a while but I’m definitely interested to see how the integration works with the upcoming games.
I think it's a great mobile platform game. I've never been one to get into other mobile type games, but Pokemon Go is just the right combination of nostalgia, physical activity, local social gathering, and, most importantly, I can play it during a time I wouldn't be regularly doing anything else with my phone.
If you're just getting into it, I would recommend searching for a local park with a high density of spawn points or a mall, for the upcoming community day (check the news feature for when this is in your area). You'll get to meet tons of people also playing and it's a neat experience.
Thanks, there's a few malls I've been able to visit since I started and there were plenty of people. They even used lures, I think that's what the pink petals are.
I liked the idea behind but than, the realization was quite short of it.
Also, once you play it a bit you realize that it has a very shallow gameplay and honestly, without a story, a game with shallow gameplay dies fast.
I can see that. I'm okay with short games though, sometimes I need something to keep busy. It's also a free game so there's not going to be much to it I suppose.
I constantly read online about how the game is dead, but I guess my town is an outlier because tons of people here play. My girlfriend and I go for daily walks to catch pokemon and hatch eggs, and we always run into other people playing. I can definitely see it being less fun without others though, so I get how it could easily die off in areas with less players.
If you live in an urban or suburban area it can be a lot of fun :-)
Level 39 here. Love playing while I am getting exercise.
Level 28; I've been playing since it was released, but there aren't many gyms within walking distance, but I still enjoy plying while I walk my dogs, although the most recent update makes my phone get hot when it's in my pocket set on battery saver, so I don't know what's going on there.
