Pikmin 4 has been confirmed, and a switch upgrade/successor has sort of generally been deconfirmed, but what do you all expect to see? Is it too early to announce TotK dlc? A new Mario game maybe?

I'm wracking my brain trying to think of what the holiday release could possibly be. They need something new around Xmas time and I can't, for the life of me, think of anything they've already announced that might fit that bill. But I also don't think they'll announce anything too big and crazy with only a 6 month window.

6 month window for a holiday release makes me feel like a Mario Sports game is coming.
Is there a pokemon game slated for this year at all? They usually do pokemons in separate directs though, right? But S/V was 2022, we don't usually go a calendar year without seeing one.

We might see some content on a Zelda roadmap like they've done lately. Where they say "We have 2 free post-launch content patches planned, and a paid DLC This FALL". But it feels a little early to pumping DLC (For Nintendo, that is).

I'd love a new mario game, but I feel like there's usually a longer hype window on those? It has been years since we got a mario game that wasn't a remake. (Not even hating on remakes, but the 3d world remake was 2021, before that was Mario Maker 2 and New Super in 2019)

      Obligatory Metroid 4 comment.

I feel like Donkey Kong is the main Nintendo IP that hasn't seen much play lately. With how heavily the Kong Army featured in the recent movie, perhaps they were paving the way for a Kong resurgence?

I wonder if the next 3D Mario is going to be a Switch 2 exclusive. They already dropped TotK, so they won't have an original Zelda on Switch 2 for 6 years. They NEED either a Mario or Zelda to be there at launch, so it's definitely going to be a Mario. If tomorrow, they announce Mario Odyssey 2 is coming to the Switch this holiday season, idk what the heck they're supposed to do to get us to buy a Switch 2. They'd not have any flagship titles for us.

BotW was a unique case, since barely anyone owned a WiiU (I didn't), so getting a Switch just for that was a better investment than buying a console that was just replaced. If they make Odyssey 2 or TotK cross gen, that won't really get butts in seats because there's already like 100 million Switch users, and especially for TotK because we all already bought it. Having it cross gen is more of a convenience if you already bought a Switch 2 for a different exclusive.

      As for games: no clue.

      Likely:

      • Pikmin 4 (obviously, the tweet even says so)
      • More Splatoon 3 news/updates

      Unlikely;

      • Pokemon DLC (pokemon tends to be its own direct these days)
      • Zelda DLC (A bit too soon)
      • Metroid Prime 2/3 news
      • Some sort of small teaser of the next Mario (I personally feel they are leaving that for the new console at this point)

      The Dream:

      • new Smash bros. teaser (again, probably next generation, and not in a launch window at all)
      • Metroid Prime 4 (given the slow roll of the Metroid prime trilogy, I'm guessing they are stretching out the drip of marketing to keep metroid in the spotlight)
      • Animal crossing DLC
      • Any hint whatsoever of the next generation.

I love my Switch, but I kinda wish there was an upgrade available soon. But well, if the Switch 2 is gonna be only theoretically available like the Xbox and PS5 were for years, it'd just be frustrating. There's a lot that could go wrong with a Switch 2 launch, so I'm hoping Nintendo doesn't mess it up. In the meantime, it's time to churn through the backlog.

Yeah, what I wanted was just "The next Zelda on this system as its first-class hardware". I was really afraid they were going to use TotK as bait to sink $900 into a new hardware platform. But now that we're past that point (and they mercifully didn't do that), it's time to admit that the Switch platform needs a hardware refresh. The weird thing is the timing now: I know they'd like to have a mainline Zelda to launch hardware with, but TotK was 6 years in the making. Will be interesting to see what they do next. I would be surprised but not shocked if they announced the new hardware tomorrow.

I think there's also room to improve the catalog on NES/SNES/GBA online. They've just recently in the last few weeks started putting half-decent titles on again. I could see them leaning into that for a while to increase subscription revenue.

Metroid Prime 4 is entering meme territory but it's not off the table. I'd be hard pressed to ask for 2 or more of these, as we are likely to get none of these, but of all the realistic ones to get announced I'd look out for Zelda DLC.

There could be something to say for content creators, goods manufacturers, event runners, etc... taking from Nintendo's market share, and that's why they do it.

They've C&Dd people on Etsy before. They C&D people covering their music. They tried to C&D everyone playing their game, or just their music, and publishing it for views (major YouTube lawsuit a while back). They C&D event producers without licenses. They C&D people playing moderately (sometimes vanilla) customized versions of their games. I think there's a consistency here, and from the perspective of a corporation it makes sense. It's just short sighted, and frankly cruel sometimes. It could benefit them, and they should chill out.

Edit: Like, they recently gave a major YouTuber 2 copyright strikes, effectively deleting his huge channel, for playing moderately customized games. One of the strikes was just for playing a vanilla game LOL. Like come on...

So, I spent some time researching this because I got very curious to the nature of his content and the striked videos.

Pointcrow complains that nintendo striked a video of his despite the fact that it was a "vanilla" version of zelda: botw (meaning that it is a version of the game that was not altered or modded in any way) for the purpose of creating content.

In his introductory statement, he stated that he ran the script by his lawyer. Not only is he publicly implying that he is prepared to legally protect himself, but he also goads his user base into picking sides, which risks causing damages to Nintendo because certain reactionary user bases have a history of bullying or harassing entities upon the threat of death. I'm sure that sounds familiar, such as when HungryBox recently complained that a 16 year old smash player was harassed upon the threat of death by anonymous Smash community members for playing and winning tournaments with Minecraft Steve.

Anyway, here is Pointcrow's striked video.

In the allegedly striked video, Pointcrow "marries" Sidon and a bookshelf by exploiting a glitch that allows him to slowly transport Sidon to Hyrule Castle, grab the bookshelf, and slowly take them both to Tarry Town for a "marriage".

I'm not exactly sure why Nintendo would strike this video, as it appears to be "Vanilla" as you've said, but my top guesses would be that:

1.) This demonstrates an unintended usage or manipulation of one of their products or IPs, or

2.) Such a manipulation or glitch could put save data files at risk to anyone who attempts to emulate the glitch.

Furthermore, his goading his user base to pick sides is not going to help anyone. There are human beings who work behind the scenes for Nintendo, Sony, etc, and such behavior and manipulation of a user base is unappreciated for those human beings who might seek compensation for damages.

This is not the year to play games with Nintendo's lawyers, especially if you're as high-profile as Pointcrow, who passed botw without using weapons. I encourage readers to look at the issues from multiple perspectives and to think critically about when you're being manipulated. I also encourage the reader to enjoy whatever game, franchise, or brand that they want without guilt, particularly if the practices of the brand or franchise are ethical.

I was thinking about your statement before bed last night, and how you claimed Nintendo's actions were moral and ethical, and I must say that despite it being within the confines of the law, law is not always moral or ethical.

In this case, I'm inclined to lean towards it not being moral and ethical. IP law can be fairly predatory, and though it is necessary in many cases, it's highly abusable. This is a pretty clear case.. They're actively pursuing people who are taking billionths of their market share (near nothing), and are making products out of love for their IP. They aren't pursuing hostile competitors, or even legitimate competitors in almost all cases.

Are tax evaders being moral and ethical? There are tons of examples, and copyright infringement doesn't usually set a good example, but in this case, it kind of does.

I thought about it too. Nintendo could have initiated 3 strikes based on those 3 videos with modded content and crushed his YouTube career. Instead, they were nice and told him to stop, and they did it by giving him just 2 strikes by bundling 3 modded videos and 1 vanilla video.

PointCrow decided to retaliate by creating that video because he's scared and didn't get proper advice from his lawyer. And you're deciding to drag on a conversation about this because you were manipulated by this dude. Your argument is "shame on nintendo for defending themselves". His manipulation worked, as evidenced by your propensity to harass me about this.

I dont think I can change your mind about this and I've personally devoted too much energy to try, as it seems that what I'm telling you with sincerity is not getting through. In the future, I advise you to pick your battles. PointCrow is not going to high five you for arguing with a stranger on the internet. Try to find some happiness in life and video games.
