Does anyone have experience with any of the games and, if so, would you recommend them? Is there anything in here that you're particularly excited to play?
I've played House of Ashes and the Quarry, The Quarry is pretty interesting and fun especially when you treat it as a movie with friends! I played all of the Dark Pictures Anthology, besides the latest one, and House of Ashes is probably the best one in a technology sense, but also the least scary one. Excited to try the other games though!
I have heard of Metal: Hellslinger, but honestly it's one of those games that I wouldn't touch because I can't imagine being good at an FPS where you can only shoot on the beat. Making on-the-beat decisions doesn't seem to work well for me in general. I suck at Crypt of the NecroDancer.
You can shoot off beat but you'll get a worse score. It takes some practice but it's not that hard really.
I played the demo back during a steam demo fest and, while I suck at Necrodancer and Cadence of Hyrule, the 'shooting on the beat' was a bit easier to get down. Mainly because you can move freely otherwise but also while wearing headphones it was a jam.
I wasn't excellent or anything but I had fun.
Wait I just realized I also played Metal Hellsinger lol. It's definitely fun... with an asterisk. I'd say it's better than the other "Shoot on the beat Doom clone" BPM: Bullets Per Minute, but at the end of the day I just beat through all the levels in like... 3 or 4 hours? and never really felt like going through it again. I enjoyed it for what it was though, but I think I preferred Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal more.
I played the Quarry on ps5 with my wife (swapped off control of characters, no proper multiplayer) and we enjoyed it. Did the same with one of their earlier games (Until Dawn) so it was nice seeing how they’d improved on the same type of systems.
House of ashes is probably the best of the anthology series, by a landslide.
