From Minecraft Live 2023, Mojang announced a few changes incoming:

    • Trial Spawners - New spawner blocks that adjust the mobs based on the number of players nearby. From the animation, it also looks like a chance to receive diamonds in the loot drops.
    • Copper Block updates - A few new copper based blocks look very welcome. Copper lamps, copper trapdoors, and copper gratings.
    • Crafter Block - This is probably the biggest news, for me at least. Finally Mojang brings a version of auto crafting to the game. You'll be able to define a recipe for the block and control it via redstone. At minimum using it to convert gold nuggets, iron bars, and bones to their block variants will save so much storage space. You'd even be able to put bone blocks directly into other farms and have it converted to bonemeal since their outputs can be chained to other Crafter blocks.
    • Armadillo - The Armadillo won the mob vote. If you were excited about it, then decorative wolf armor is on the way. Wasn't my vote, but with the Crafter block coming, I'm very happy.

Actually, the description from Mojang reads: So the wolf armor will be non-cosmetic and actually increase the wolf's defense.

      decorative wolf armor

Actually, the description from Mojang reads:

The armadillo also drops a scute that you can use to craft a new type of armor, wolf armor! Which will give you pet wolf some extra protection.

So the wolf armor will be non-cosmetic and actually increase the wolf's defense.

Yeah, it was sort of telling that the first 10-20 hours of any modpack I played was a rush to get to the "I don't have to sort chests" technology, whatever that happened to be for that pack. I eventually gave up on Minecraft and a bunch of other games when I realized that most of the game time was shuffling inventory.

I can't play without the Inventory Profiles Next mod anymore. It's a client-side mod that lets you sort your inventory or a chest with a hotkey (default R). It'll also optionally auto-refill the item you have in your hand when a stack runs out. Tons of other features and options as well.

Seems like a good update so far. Auto crafting is gonna be nuts, probably the next hopper or observer in terms of buffing redstone and farms. I'm glad they gave copper some more use. The metal grate block is something we've definitely needed and will be super useful for builds.

Also keep in mind that these are just the features that are almost ready; there's even more features coming. They'll be announcing new stuff throughout next year as they work on the update, like in 1.20. For the previous update, they didn't announce the cherry trees, armor trimming, or archaeology's return at Minecraft Live, they just shadow dropped those all later.
