I thought this was an interesting look into how cutting-edge graphical features in Unreal Engine 5 have been implemented in some recent games. I also learned that The Talos Principle 2 is coming out next week. (My computer would barely meet the minimum requirements, but maybe I'll get it one day.)

Even if you meet the minimum, I think the upscaling and ray traced graphics just do not work on low specs. I played the demo on my GTX 1060. And if your card isn't RTX, things just look bad. I had...

I played the demo on my GTX 1060. And if your card isn't RTX, things just look bad. I had lots of very dark grainy spots, or ambient occlusion that flickers as if it's a pool reflection.

Upscaling helped (but nothing like DLSS), but it's just sub optimal. I'm really not a fan of the dependency on DLSS.

That's a shame, I've heard the first is marvelously optimized. I do wonder if those requirements are more forgiving than they first appear, though. The game's rated as Playable on the Steam Deck,...

I do wonder if those requirements are more forgiving than they first appear, though. The game's rated as Playable on the Steam Deck, and the only reason for that listed is small text, it says that the default graphics configuration performs well on the Steam Deck, and it's got a heck of a lot less firepower than a GTX 970, even (I think) scaling down the pixel pushing appropriately.

I had a good enough experience (and I was a big fan of the first game) that I intend to pick it up on release.

It's certainly possible. My 970 ran the original terrifically (90+ fps avg, sometimes hitting my 144 fps limit). The newer video cards seem to have all sorts of features that mine doesn't, though,...

The newer video cards seem to have all sorts of features that mine doesn't, though, like DLSS. If the PC version is meant to be played with those fancy settings enabled, my old pal probably won't be able to keep up.

It's about time to upgrade anyway—my system is coming up on a decade old now. (How time flies!) I was planning on waiting until the next GPU generation to buy. I've been put off by the pricing for the last few years, but I don't know if we have any indication that the market will improve. I'll have to bite the bullet.

The storage requirement (100 GB) also seems high to me. I only have 750 GB, which is apparently really low these days. It'll have to be a full rebuild. May as well get a new desk too, at this rate.

I’ve got Lords of the Fallen on computer - running an RTX 3080, and it’s been excellent! Some minor tuning of graphics, but it’s been pretty smooth sailing - everything is on high/ultra and it runs at a pretty stable 60 fps at 4K.

The dual worlds mechanic is really cool, the graphics/textures, level of detail is really impressive. Keen to see how this generation of games progresses if this is what we’re getting at the beginning.
