Classic Cata also announced. I'm sure some raiders are excited for Firelands, but... ugh. It's not really Classic anymore if the old world's gone.

People speculated that they would have stopped by now since only the first three iterations of the game would - to most people - be considered the classic years of WoW. But now I'm not even sure if they're going to stop at WoD, because simply continuing as long as it's profitable seems more likely

Cataclysm was definitely where you started to see “neo-WoW” features creep in even if the bones still bore some resemblance to those of the original trio. It kind of paved the way for the numerous large changes brought by MoP and WoD.

It’s hard for me to see it as a “Classic” too. I mean I still refer to many of the Cata changed areas as “new”, e.g. “new Orgrimmar”.

Ultimately, it's just less money and risk to re-release, rather than to innovate. Seasons of discovery does sound fun, but I don't think Blizzard has it in them to make a true Classic+.

Hope were high that the 10th expansion would coincide with the 20th WoW anniversary and be bigger and better than ever. However it seems we will be getting the usual: 4 new zones, 8 dungeons, 1 raid - as has been the recipe the last many expansions. Announcing three expansions at once is pretty surprising though it's only the first that they went into. We have little more than titles and brief plot summaries of the second and third.

I get the kinda disappointment with the safe play recipe of the expansion, I was kind of expecting a bit more. That aside I think that's another expack I'm going to like, delves sound like my perfect content, refined class fantasies as evergreen mechanics and warbands sound pretty good to me.

I also felt like I got some vibes of finishing up and wiping the slate with the current state of the game what with the plot summaries of the next expansions.

I think I'm cautiously optimistic. Seasons of discovery sounds super fun as well.

It does sound fun! Some people are sad because it is no Classic+. Everyone has a different idea of what Classic+ means, but there is a general consensus that it might be an alternative continuation of Vanilla... which essentially means Blizzard making an entirely new game. Seems highly unlikely.

With Cataclysm we're approaching non-Classic territory. I have nothing against it, I started playing in Cataclysm so it is special to me. In my opinion, what Classic will need going forward are Progression Servers, like the ones they have in EverQuest. WoW Classic producer previously worked on EverQuest, so she definitely knows how to do it.

The one thing that would make me play Retail would be a rework of everything, a "tree shake" to reduce unnecessary complexity, excessive information, and scope. I agree with Asmongold when he puts it, quite simply, that "there's way too much shit in this game". I dream of a day when I won't need 30 addons just to make this game manageable. Maybe that will happen if WoW arrives on the Xbox.
