p.s. Rather than playing on the world as a whole and guessing countries between the two points, you can also play within different countries by clicking the travle icon in the top left corner, and selecting a country. The game refreshes every day with new challenges, BTW.

I'm also pretty terrible with African geography too. I know the names of a lot of African countries, but don't really know their locations or orientations to one another all that well. So I also failed today... but:

      Spoiler

My first 3 guesses were Niger, Nigeria, and Camaroon, which is apparently a portion of the most efficient path between them. However, I didn't know which country/countries filled in the last remaining gap... which turned out to be Burkina Faso, or Benin + Togo. And I wasted all my remaining guesses on Liberia, Guinea, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, and DR of Congo... none of which helped me.

I probably should have just put my ego aside and used some of the hints. But in hindsight, I honestly don't think I would have guessed the last countries I needed to fill the gap, even with the hints... so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ :P

Apparently they've rolled over to the next challenge, because I got "get from Slovakia to Lithuania without going through Poland or Ukraine". Which is a weird way to construct a geography puzzle, but fun! I'm much better at European than African geography, although I'd like to have tried that one.

Oh, it runs on local time! So unusual. Most sites I use that update daily do so on a fixed server time. Guess I spoiled tomorrow's challenge, but I didn't reveal the solution!

Yeah, I understand why they do it. But I wish you could at least go back and play previous days challenges. Especially since I don't know enough about each individual country's provinces/counties/states/etc to play most of the country-level ones either. The US and UK are the only countries I can do that for. But the US is a bit too easy.

Edit: Apparently it's on their to-do list already:

Can I play more games? Infinite or training mode

The idea of an unlimited travle, and/or allowing players to catch up on previous games is something I'd like to add, but I'm also really not sure if the game could lose its fun if played a lot. I'm worried that new players would join, play a few times and leave - never to return. I guess that's pushed it down my priority list for travle. (I totally get that this is annoying for players that like the game, but I'm also sure travle wouldn't be nearly as popular without the daily aspect of it) Before it, I'd like to add more challenging random levels ('get to x without y', or a trip combining more than 2 countries)...

I'm also working on other games and have a full time job, so time's been tight lately unfortunately!

It's based on your local time, so you can by temporarily changing your date to the past. (Don't forget to change it back, or future-you will be extremely confused.)

Oh... I assumed it was controlled server side, and rolled over based on geo IP determining a user's local timezone. But I just tested it, and you're right. It's just the local machine system clock that controls which puzzle is displayed, and so we can simply roll our system date back to play all the older challenges. It's kind of a PITA to do that though, and IMO travle should just add the ability to replay previous day's rounds. But at least we can play the older puzzles, and more than one puzzle a day, if we really want to now.

@smoontjes and @imperialismus, if you want to play older puzzles too.

Can't say I understand the author's reasoning though. Because only allowing me to play one single game, and then making me wait till tomorrow... is exactly what would make me never return.

I got the "get from Slovakia to Lithuania without going through Poland or Ukraine" puzzle. It was a lot of fun to think through the locations of the countries and determine whether the path I came up with definitely was the shortest. To my shame I did a little worse at the Irish counties 😅

I roughly know where a lot of countries are but often have trouble placing them exactly (which often bites me playing Worldle, I think playing this would help with that! Thanks for sharing :)

      Spoiler

I'm kinda mad that Kaliningrad (Russian exclave bordering Lithuania) didn't count as a proper connection between Russia and Lithuania though, and so you still had to pick Belarus to complete the challenge. I thought I was being clever by starting with Russia and skipping over Belarus, and I didn't realize until the very end that Kaliningrad didn't count. :(

Blanked out on a lot of the countries in central/east Africa so I started typing letters to get it to show me country names. Had a lot of unnecessary guesses because apparently I didn't have to go to Saudi Arabia as Egypt and Jordan do have a border, just by sea! And I also didn't know that there are 2 Congo's! Tanzania turned out to be missing piece for me as I would not have had to start more or less randomly guessing.

Fun game and I guess their design works because I will be back tomorrow too..!

The only reason I didn't fail was because I remembered from the previous Africa challenge which countries I knew the names of and guessed that weren't in the Eastern region, and that DR of Congo was bloody huge and somewhere in the mid-south, which is what saved my ass at the very end. :P

Oh, and thankfully I also knew that Lesotho was surrounded by South Africa because it's a common location featured on GeoGuessr... which I watch a lot of people play on YouTube. :P

GeoWizard is probably the biggest, and the one I watch most often. He plays GeoGuessr as well all sorts of other geography related games... like this one, which is how I found out about it. But he also has some other really great real-life travel/adventure series, like his How NOT To Travel Europe and America series, and Straight Line Missions.

The other two biggest GeoGuessr specific channels I watch are zi8gzag and RAINBOLT, who also often collaborate together, and with a whole slew of other GeoGuessr pros too.

And there are also lots of channels that don't focus on GeoGuessr specifically, but still have the occasional videos where they play it. E.g. Whos Suda's 19v1 and 100v1 against GeoGuessr Pro (zi8gzag) videos, and Ludwig's many many GeoGuessr videos.
