Does anyone have experience with any of the games and, if so, would you recommend them? Is there anything in here that you're particularly excited to play?
Meta note: I chatted with @Venko who has previously run these threads, and I'll be posting them for the time being. This one is a little late on account of that, but Humble Choice runs for a month so the deal is still current.
I'm wondering if we wanna throw them under the save points thread? I've been refraining from posting them on that thread mostly because I know we have these threads usually. Personally I'm a bit too lazy to do specific links and tables like this though, so -shrug-
I think it's really @Venko's call. I'm just following suit right now.
That said, I do feel like Humble Choice is noteworthy enough to warrant its own topic series separate from Save Point.
totally fair! I'll leave y'all to take care of those then, one less thing to post (and the aforementioned laziness thing)
Not much interests me this month, but I did keep up my subscription to keep the discount going (I hate that they've got that hook in me, but the extra 20% off I get at the Humble Store is honestly quite worth it).
Also, I think this collection is a nice indicator of just how great Proton has been for Linux gaming. Only one of the games in the collection has a native Linux build, but the other 7 (allegedly) run nearly flawlessly on Linux. 6 out of those 7 are Deck Verified (the remainder is listed as Playable), and a slightly different 6 out of 7 have Platinum ratings on ProtonDB (the remainder there having a Gold rating).
If you look at just the operating system column, this bundle should be a complete bust for Linux gamers, but thanks to Proton it's actually quite enticing if you like the games offered.
I can speak for Scorn.
The gameplay is lacking and shallow, but the art and ideas are great. It's a short game overall and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys the darker side of humanity, or that enjoys a bit of body horror.
If you don't fall into those camps, I would say it's a pass.
First time in many years I’m checking out a Humble deal. I’m surprised it’s still around. This isn’t the list of headline-making games I remember. But more than that, the offer of quantity (regardless of quality, even) no longer draws me in that much. What do I do with 8 new games every month? I barely finish one.
I guess if you look to build a solid indie library from scratch, this is a good deal, though. Do they still give out Steam codes?
Yup! Humble Choice games are delivered as Steam keys. You activate them to your account and they’re yours to keep forever (or until the heat death of the Steam universe).
For most other game subscription services you lose access to the library once you stop paying, so Choice is a pleasant and welcome change from that pattern.
That's actually pretty neat. Can you just do one month of humble choice if you like the games or do you have to subscribe ahead of knowing the games and it's more of a gamble?
You can still subscribe to the month after the games are revealed, and then unsubscribe immediately after redeeming them. You'll only be charged for the one month.
I'm excited to play DAH2, as the first was an enjoyable dose of nostalgia and Scorn was one of those that I had wishlisted but never really saw a price I felt like but I'll gladly play it now.
Add in Beacon Pines which I've given a few glances at and Snowtopia, I'm always a sucker to management sims, and I've actually got a good feeling about this one.
