I've been enjoying Season of Discovery (Which for anyone not familiar with WoW, is basically the original game with some new content), and this new MoP mode seems to be heavily influenced by it.

All in all, I think it's a good time to be a WoW player.

Mists of Pandaria is, in my opinion, the best expansion. The art team killed it, the new class and race were both awesome, the story was as good as it had ever been, there were things to do in the world, the proto-garrison (the farm) wasn't detrimental to the feeling of community, dragon racing was fun, the gear grind wasn't as bad as it felt later on, and the raids and dungeons were top notch.

I cannot overstate how much the art team absolutely nailed it.

Disclaimer: I've not played the most recent expansion so that one might be in the running?

Dragonflight is a tourniquet. It's not the best expansion ever, but it stabilised the game. Modern WoW has completely lost me, but even I can tell things got better.

Do you think Dragonflight is worth playing? It is the only expansion I didn't reach max level in. The skinner box just became so obvious to me that I felt gross playing it. It felt like I was getting a visual dopamine kick every couple minutes.

I'm likely to return for future expansions so I suppose it's probably worth getting a character to max level?

Oh, like I said, I'm out of the game. I've been playing WoW since vanilla because I loved WC3 lore, and SLs absolutely destroyed my ties to the game. Dragonflight could be the best xpac ever released, and I still wouldn't be interested.

But in terms of gameplay systems, yeah, it's much better. Borrowed power is gone, alts are possible again, the gameplay loop is back to normal. Still full of FOMO, but that's modern WoW.

I am interested in MoP Remix, but that's because I'm a F2P player and I wonder what the LVL 20 limits are for it.

Yeah, Legion was the end for me as well. Played BfA, hated it (HoA, the story, azerite armor), then came Shadowlands which completely broke my love for the game. I'm still on the margins. I occasionally play the F2P mode, which is an interesting challenge. But I have zero interest on being up to date with the current xpac these days.

The funny thing is that there was never a WoW killer. No MMO ever came along to displace WoW. The game did it on its own.

I agree - MoP is amazing! I’m currently super invested in SoD, but I’ll definitely be playing MoP when it comes out. I’d love to do siege of orgrimmar again.

If you're asking about SoD, yes, that's exactly it.

It's insane how this is presented only as a temporary thing, while you can play all the maps as endgame content in many MMOs. It's a step in the right direction, for sure, but I think it's still missing the mark. At least for me. I always disliked how WoW's massive world and stories were made moot by the focus on the latest expansion. I feel like it has so much to offer: its world is massive, it has decades of content. If only the game took some pages from different approaches.

From what I’ve gathered, this is a problem with MMOs in general. Any that survive past teething age end up on a content treadmill where only the newest zones, dungeons, raids, etc are of any value to players, with this notion being reinforced by players and the maker of the game alike.

That's why I prefer more lateral MMOs, like Guild Wars 2 or Elder Scrolls Online. They have different systems that allow a wider choice of picks for endgaming, especially GW2.
