Switch owners, what are your thoughts on the Mario Tennis Aces demo?
I love the gameplay and overall feel of the game but the online lag is unbearable at times and the lack of local 2P play doesn't help in that regard.
Still, as long as the final game has more stages and some more characters (where is Luigi?) I'll probably buy it to play with the gf.
What did you think of the game?
It’s far outside my comfort zone but somehow that made it fresh for me! I really like the dynamics of trying to predict your opponent’s moves and timing shots just right. It’s like a fighting game, isn’t it? For 20€, I’d buy it but full price still doesn’t feel right for me.
I thought it was great. Too bad about the lag on the p2p though. I have hope for the single player, and local vs play will probably be great fun too.
It's alright I guess. I'm really no good at tennis so I was constantly getting my butt kicked.
Also the lag did get pretty bad at times, and no local play was pretty lame.
I think I'll just stick with good 'ol Wii Sports for now.
I love the other Mario Tennis games and was pretty good at them. This though, I'm just getting my ass handed to me online. It's pretty discouraging. I like the game mechanics though. And as others have said there was definitely some lag.
The demo is fine, outside of the lag. It shouldn't be too hard to fix on Nintendo's end, if my guess is right.
I analyzed the ping while playing a few matches, and noticed that the lag seemed to happen immediately after a very short spike in ping, usually around 500ms or so for maybe a second at most. Unfortunately the game's netcode did not adjust for the lag once the connection was resolved, resulting in a laggy game.
This fix isn't necessarily challenging to fix, so Camelot could reasonably get a patch out during the first few days of, if not before, launch.
Really enjoyed it! I don't have enough time or energy to play competitively online anymore so it was nice to have a brief flashback into that. I won't be paying for Nintendo's online subscription so once it comes out I'd be stuck with just the offline game play. Not sure if that'll be worth the full price tag right out of the gates, but I'll definitely be picking it up at some point.
Only got to play a bit on Sunday and got my ass handed to me constantly, but still enjoyed it.
I'm just really happy that there's a mode that removes the special moves!
I like it, feels a lot better than the last few we got. Dunno if I'll be buying it, though. I usually don't buy Mario games outside of the main ones and Mario Kart.
I liked it too but I don't really have the time or the budget to justify getting it.
I played for like a whole day and didn't experience any lag that people kept reporting.
Then I finally saw what everyone was talking about. Yes, if the lag was normal it would be unplayable.
I guess I was lucky cause 95% of my play time over the weekend was lag-free.
I really liked the game though. Lots to keep track of and requires constant quick reflexes.
I beat the tournament with Chomp and realized he was cheap, so I focused on developing skills with Waluigi.
I think he's great
