The jig and dongle method is just flat out annoying. And also because Nintendo has it's fingers deeper in the Switch they have an easier time banning people for playing around with the device. With the Wii's Homebrew channel I didn't need to force the system into a mode using a MacGyver made tool every time I wanted to use it, and I didn't risk my account or system from being banned just because I used the exploit to run emulators. No don't get me wrong. I could never do what these peeps are discovering and making happen. Also the hack scene for the Switch is still very young. I'm still cheering on people who are much smarter than me at doing this, in hopes they can get around Nintendo's shitty anti-piracy bs.

I just read this before I left work. It's a really thorough write up! Kind of disappointing though for what I was hoping for homebrew on the switch. If it holds up we won't get as good of homebrew on that we saw on the Wii. Mix that with the implications of Nintendo's ban hammer and I am definitely holding of on tinkering with my Switch. It's really sad too because I want to do it more so with the murmurs of Nintendo completely ditching locally owned VC titles for the subscription business model. I'm really hoping someone out there finds a low risk and less clunky loop hole in the system.

I always main Ganondorf through the series. He's heavy and if you get the timing of his lumbering slowness down you can annihilate.

The Fountain, despite seeing it's flaws over the years, is still my favorite movie. I both hate and love how forefront it's themes are. It can feel insulting to a lot of film buffs as if they are being hit over the head with them but I love it for that. The way they are presented makes the movie feel like a fable even though they may be in the audience's face but that also just makes it more widely penetrative. It sounded like Aronofsky hoped it turned out better but was hit with budget cuts. I kind of like how simple the editing unfolds the story. Sometimes things are made more creatively when faced with limitation and this movie is an example. I saw the movie during a tough time in my life and it really helped me think more positive and get myself motivated to just keep moving and doing what I do. Accept downfalls that come your way but don't let them stop you.

Float On by Modest Mouse will always be my favorite song because of the memory that is tied to it. After my dad went to jail we had to sell our house and move to somewhere more affordable for my mom. It was a hard time in a lot of our lives. Since I was born, we lived in a large house in a small city in Orange County NY and then moved to a small house on just about an acre of land in a more rural area towards the edge of the county. I postponed going off to college to be around for my mom and make sure my younger brother had a male role model around. A few days after moving into the new place we were in my older sisters car moving some small things left behind at the old house. When we were driving back to the new house it was late afternoon and my sister put on Modest Mouse's newest album at the time. I can't describe how cathartic and communal that feeling was. The warm sun was setting at our backs as we drove down this big hill on a major state road that leveled off in a field below. We had cow pastures on our right and the wetlands at the bank of the Wallkill river on our left with the cool summer air flowing through the windows of the car, as we were belting out the famous refrain with tears in the corners of our eyes: "We all float on okay"

Anyone have advice on finishing books? I was reading a book called Of Wind and Sand by Sylvie Bérard and it was really really interesting (I liked it's scifi take on racial tension and colonization) but for some reason I just couldn't pick it back up after putting it down when I was distracted by other life shit. So I moved on to the first book of The Expanse series, Leviathan Wakes, which was also really interesting but alas I ended up not finishing it. I think I'm at the climax of that book? I also do this with a lot of video games too oddly enough. I for the life of me can't finish the main quest in Skyrim, Bioshock Infinite, and The Last of Us. Just wonder if anyone has insight into this sort of behavior.

I feel a big problem with open world focused design causes worlds to feel a little empty, shallow, or hollow. It's my main gripe with Breath of the Wild. I love the game. But because Ninty really wanted to focus on the expanse of the world a lot of tried and true Zelda tropes fell majorly by the wayside. I get that they wanted more freedom with stage and item progression but I feel like they went a little too far in that direction. What they should have done to give the players more freedom was make it like A Link between Worlds how you didn't need to do the dungeons in a specific order or with a particular item. Also the story and primary dungeon design and frequency suffered greatly because of the open world focus. Towns were almost non existent and ghostly, with stables and random wandering NPC's trying desperately to fill the gap. In the same vein, the shrines were all the same palette and cookie cutter form trying to distract the player from the lackluster Divine Beasts.

I remember in the Windows 95 days my dad signed us up for this software of the month club. There was one game in particular that I just wish I could find today called Trigger Happy. It was cute sprited army guys that would explode in a pixelated gory fashion. They almost looked like South Park characters (before SP was a thing?)

I love me some great visuals but really it's all down to gameplay and story. As others have said though, that doesn't mean visuals don't matter at all. They are very much tied to the other two so they have to compliment the game design and story. I'm trying to think of good and bad examples of this but I'm drawing a blank.
