Ah, so this is the answer to "What will happen to all the free scans that were available for free on the old platform"? They're FREE... for about a month and a half.

The point is that before the purchase by Epic, most of these scans were freely available all the time on Sketchfab. I should clarify I don't know the accuracy of this statement, as I didn't really...

I should clarify I don't know the accuracy of this statement, as I didn't really use it myself, but that's the context I gathered from GP.
What’s next for free and view-only content on Sketchfab?
If you offer free content and view-only models on Sketchfab, nothing is changing to your experience at this time – your models will remain where they are and viewers will be able to continue accessing them on Sketchfab. You can also continue uploading new content on Sketchfab as you do today.
With Fab, our goal is to bring together the creative community and provide a way to share, discover, buy and sell assets all in one place. There are many companies and organizations that use Sketchfab as a service to store and share content, and we’ll continue supporting these functions until we have alternative options ready. We’re working on a streamlined account creation process for creators who do not intend to sell, expanding support for additional license types, and creating a pathway to support free and view-only models on Fab in 2025. We’ll share more details with the Sketchfab community as soon as we have plans in place. We won’t make any changes to these functions until we share the plan with you and give you plenty of time to prepare.
Keep them or not, as Vord pointed out, they used to be always free and plenty are under non-commercial scientific licenses - meaning they can't be sold. "You can get them all to keep forever now...

"You can get them all to keep forever now (even though they were completely free 100% of the time before) for a limited time!" is just a way to bump up their user count.
All Megascans are free to everyone under Fab’s Standard License until the end of 2024, for all engines and tools. Claim them now and then download from the Quixel profile page when you're ready to use them.
How do you go about searching and browsing these "megascans"? As opposed to all the other regular models on the site. I'm not seeing anything in the UI to filter the search results.

And for anybody (like me) whom is coming in fresh, it should be noted that this "free" license has some important restrictions. Reading through it suggests the following:
When you make such a Distribution, you may, however, only authorize end users to make use of Content solely as incorporated in the Project in object code and you must restrict end users from extracting or otherwise using Content outside of the Project.
In other words: Don't package this into an open-source game. You probably are required to use some fashion of DRM. The actually state some banned licenses for example:
This means, for example, that you may not combine Content under a Standard License with code or content that is licensed under any of the following licenses: GNU General Public License (GPL), Lesser GPL (LGPL) (unless you are merely dynamically linking a shared library), or Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.
This all makes sense of course, however it very much dampened my initial enthusiasm. I still clicked the button for a freebie though.

Afaik this concerns only assets that were on https://quixel.com/megascans before.
