Being set in the Dune universe is an added bonus. Gonna try to establish (the non-canonical) House Ordos from the Dune 2 RTS fame!

Edit: As an aside I downloaded the character creator and it runs smoothly (though not at the highest settings) on my GNU/Linux (Nixos) Laptop via Steam Proton which I was very happy with.

I'm low key excited. I was actually wondering if a Tildes server would be a good idea, it seems like exactly the right size of community for it. I'm wasn't going to jump on it right away though,...

I'm wasn't going to jump on it right away though, I'm slightly concerned about all the hype behind closed doors, I want to see and hear some real players opinions before I buy it and get actually excited about playing it properly.

Seems sensible! My understanding is that this is an MMO so no private servers out of the gate. But, maybe you meant just picking one of the servers (or whatever they decide to call them) and call...

Anyway, if I end up playing this weekend I'll report back!

For information about server structure please read this post. As I understand it, if tildes users want to meet each other you should choose the same World with a capital W. There is also a section...

There is also a section on their plans for private servers.

Oh that was not my understanding, I thought that it was like Arc or V Rising where you could host a dedicated server. I didn't realize you'd have to play on public servers. I guess that does...

I guess that does change my view on the game a little. Like I was hoping for a bit of a community thing rather than just a server of random people (especially when it comes to agreement on gameplay rules and stuff)

My favorite things in the genre so far have been Realm of the Mad God and V Rising, since they both mess with this formula in some way. I haven't paid too much attention to this one, i am curious if it's just going to be "wow-esque with dune skin" or if they'll really hammer home the various differences of the factions vying for dune. Asymmetry is core to the story, so i'm hoping they at least try.

It's not quite an MMO. Seems more in the vein of Conan Exiles. I don't know what I'd call that game: MMO-like?

Yeah i did a small dive into it after commenting. Seems okish? I dunno, guess i'll have to see the final product, but certainly looks a lot more like "3rd person shooter MMO" than "DUNE"
