Over the last year my friend, fellow Tetris the Grand Master player and western TGM community resident dragon Demonin compiled a great deal of info about the history of this series and its communities by doing genuine documentary work (including interview of Japanese players; while many of us were just available and chillin on Discord). I'm super proud of him and his work !
If you don't know about TGM, it's the Dark Souls of Tetris (with at least as much depth as it). It has a convoluted story, being sort of trapped in arcade-land by their rightsholder, but with a small but dedicated fanbase in the West that still found the game fascinating despite it being difficult to access .
