Couldn't get into undertale or delta rune. LOOOOOOOVE the lore and higher level concepts and presentation, but the minute to minute gameplay and character interactions just never kept me interested enough.

So thankfully I'll be consuming some sleep deprived lore vid on this and it's implications in the coming week.

The first Deltarune chapter actually spoofs the little Touhou music titles when the first big musical drop kicks in. Undyne's MIDI trumpets are also totally nods IMO.

Ah, that's cool. I like that it's actually inspiration and not just me drawing parallels. Good old Roland SoundCanvas trumpet. I wish they'd bring back the VST version of that. It would be fun.

So after undertale became a thing, toby fox and ZUN have collaborated on remixes: U.N. Owen was Hero and more recently, Necrolovania

Should I just wait for all versions to come out before playing? I'm weird about episodic drama.

For what it's worth, I also get weird about episodic media as it releases; I dislike getting lead along before it's done, or until people can treat it as one holistic, complete piece. It feels kind of exploitative, or that media just doesn't give itself proper consideration in order to string itself out to keep a machine going.

I also fucking love Deltarune! I have little financial concern here; Fox already had gazillions to fund this however long he wanted, it's a flat price, and the abrupt release of 5 could've been longer. The chapters work well individually, and I think only one so far has made me think "this is episodic Undertale", which ended up maybe working in its favor with its ending and follow-up. Even if it doesn't stick the landing in 7 I will absolutely not regret getting to experience the complete shock SURVEY_PROGRAM.EXE was, and I hold two of the individual chapters so far in extremely high regard.

Personally, I'm waiting. Deltarune started releasing nearly a decade ago, playing it piecemeal over that long would've made me lose interest.

I enjoy contemplating where the story will go after finishing a chapter.

I’ve played this since it was only the first two chapters as a demo, then each new chapter as they released. Just finished through my first run of chapter 5 and wow, the new non-combat mechanics here (trying to be spoiler-free) blew my mind! And it was a ton of fun too. Definitely not the hardest chapter gameplay wise, I’m hoping the B side is more challenging. Either way I’m stoked to see how the story pans out

Agreed. I really appreciate the gameplay mechanics employed in this chapter to keep things fresh. I also appreciate the [spoilers within] Ace Attorney mechanic introduction with the evidence....

Ace Attorney mechanic introduction with the evidence.

Also, I'm not into dating sims but the incorporation of dating sim mechanics into the optional boss was another great gameplay technique.

I'm mixed because I really loved this for what it is but coming off Chapter 4 I was expecting the plot to pick up at a faster pace than this.

Its a game I'll get into when the full game is out. Undertale was a very one-time experience for me.

The visuals were cool though, can't wait for chapter 7 to continue.

      Spoilers for weird route

The most interesting (and imo correct) theory I heard about the weird route here is that Noelle has become aware of Hometown's fictional nature and her and Kris's nature as protagonists without whom the story can't continue.

We know from the holidaygirl1225 blog and in-game that Noelle loves finding exploits, secrets, and glitches in video games. We also know that she's...not the most mentally stable person.

So if she knew she was a main character, in a fictional world, and that the area "across the lake" is out-of-bounds, why not try to abuse her plot armour to actually "break free" of her NPC fate and actually go there? If the story (and thus world) can't continue without her, and she's seen that being told to "Proceed" has let her do impossible things before, why not take it to the extreme?

So yeah in a word I'm very excited for Chapter 7 Side B (and Side A, obviously). Gaster and Dess are sitting in the shelter with the Device just staring in disbelief at this turn of events lol.
