Monster Hunter World (PC)
Does anyone play Monster Hunter around here?
The game comes out tomorrow, and I'm so stoked. I pre-ordered it for $45 here . I'm so excited to be able to play it online with so many friends that didn't have consoles. I'm so excited to be able to stream it. I'm so excited for the more "open world" aspect of it, with minimal loading screens. The graphics look so nice.
So who else plays it? What weapon do you main? What monster are you most excited to get killed by?
EDIT: I think I'm going to go hammer this time around. In the past I've use the greatsword, bow, switchaxe, and chargeblade.
Seems really cool and my friend has been hyping it up for months, but there's no way I'm paying $75 for it.
Won't be reduced price till after release, but Kinguin has been a reliable source for cheap game codes for me. Depends on how ethical you are.
I pre-ordered it for $45 on gamersgate!
15ish bucks off on fanatical.com
I have it on my ps4 but I really disliked having to pay for ps+ in order to play online. Havent touched it since my ps+ expired months ago.
Cons of consoles... I guess it's in the name ;) But yea, I'll be getting MHGU for the switch, and I'm not thrilled about having to pay for online.
Hell yeah! I've already sunk a bunch of hours into the ps4 version and I'm super excited to play through again on PC. I played as Hammer and Lance for most of the ps4 version, looking forward to forcing myself to use other weapons!
MH:W is up there for game of the year/decade in my book.
Was MHW your first game in the series? Just curious
I've played 1 other in the series, but for only a few (<10) hours and never really got into it.
For reference, I have about 150 hours in MHW.
Nice! Welcome-ish to the hunt. The series is hella fun. I hope you stay a while. :)
Thanks and I definitely plan on it! Already planning on picking up the Switch MHG coming out later this month. I'm absolutely sold :)
Yep I played a bunch of hours on ps4 but I'm going to sink a bunch of time in again on the PC release with a bunch of friends. It's my first real time playing one of the MH franchise and I enjoy it even after 200+ hours.
I love the monster hunter series! I was really into MHW when it first came out, but I haven’t played in a few months now. I’ve been maining swaxe since Mh3u and touched nothing else until world when I picked up Insect glaive, heavy bowgun and light bowgun.
Couldn't ever really get into the bowguns. I'll have to try them out this time around. I've been playing since unite, so I mostly stick with great sword since younger me loved the giant sword. Start trying new weapons around 3u, and loved the bow. Then the chargeblade looked badass when it came out. I havent played any mhw yet, so I'm looking forward to it
Currently shopping for a new video card so I won't be able to jump on this until later in the month but looking forward to it. Haven't played since MH4U on 3DS and skipped generations (Though I may pick it up on switch.) Last time I went greatsword and switchaxe but I am thinking I might try out a faster character this time and do something like dual wielding. I honestly have not read much into MH World so I don't know much about the returning/changing monsters but looking forward to dying to just about everything.. as usual!
Just my two cents, not sure when you're planning on buying, but Nvidia's next cards are being announced late this month. Even if you're not gonna buy this next gen, the current one will be far cheaper. Or get one on a great sale
I actually got one today, haha However, it's an EVGA so I can use the step up program to an 1180! I ended up going with a GTX 1080 ACX3 FTW model for $400.
Damn I didn't know EVGA did that! What's the return window on the updgrade?
So you have 14 days from purchase to register for the step up program, and then I believe its within 90 days of purchase for the step-up to begin. Yea EVGA is really unmatched when it comes to pro-consumer policies and customer support.
Ah yeah I got a 1080TI from them, but that was in February so a step-up is out of the question :/
I was really close to pulling the trigger on a 1080ti ICX for $600 but I decided to be responsible and save my money, I really only play in 1080p anyway so this should be overkill until my 1180 exchange, which will be double overkill.
Good move, I only have the Ti cuz I'm in 1440p/165Hz. I had that 1080 for a long while and loved it. Enjoy it!
Yea my problem is that I am a couch PC gamer (I have a pretty nice desk setup for it to use keyboard/mouse when needed. Otherwise I use a gamepad w/ software to emulate the mouse on desktop.) so unless I want to spend a few grand for a REALLY nice TV I am stuck in 1080p 120Hz. Maybe in a year or two after I save up a bit more i'll consider a secondary monitor for higher resolutions. The 1180 should be able to handle 1440p 60hz without any issues at all.
I feel ya, I do some from the couch as well. If you upscale that 10/1180 will be perfect in 1080p especially with that refresh rate. I'd highly recommend the steam controller for couch playing, it works on the desktop by default, and it super customizable.
I bought a 1070 on August 1st, and I was beating myself up big time once I found out nvidia was talking about launching 11xx cards at the end of the month.
I had no idea EVGA did this. Got my card registered with them and it qualifies for the program. Seriously dude, THANK YOU for pointing this out. You are my personal hero right now.
Oh wow nice, really glad I could help! The 1070 is a beast of a card too, I would have went for it if I hadn't gotten the 1080 for nearly the same price.
Dual weilding is fun AF, but I suck at it. I'm more of a heavy hitter type person. I skipped gen on the 3ds as well, so I'm super pumped about MHGU on the switch! World is good, but it has a lot of creature comforts and it's more forgiving from what I've seen. The others a little more "hardcore" I guess you could say. Excited none the less
To be honest I have no problem with them making it more casual, as much as I like the challenge of MH, I think theres just too much filler sometimes and time spent getting into the fun parts. If MH World can help get me and my sword connecting with a T-Rex skull faster then I am all for it. The few changes I did look into seemed nice, like not having to paintball creatures anymore!
I kinda like the grindiness of it. But I totally understand what you mean. I hope a FEW things stay from world, but at the same time, I just want another classic MH on my portable.
Yes. Wait... Double yes. It's a ton of fun, and you can get as in depth with it as you'd like. Some people love building intricate armor setups to minmax everything and get everything down to a T. But I just like killing giant monsters, and upgrading down a path I find fun. One thing I like about it is there is no real character leveling, so if you want to switch weapons at any point you can if you have the supplies. If you don't have them, just hunt more!
The character creation has a lot of details. Dress up mechanics are kind up to the armor path you choose to go with. I THINK there is an option to choose what your armor looks like. I haven't looked too much into MHW TBH, but the deluxe edition comes with a special layered armor set, so I guess to cover your armor you have equipped. But not 100% sure.
