Some good HD releases and ports, for sure, but not much is catching my eye in the way of new material. The new Game Freak thing looks alright and Animal Crossing is a good name to promise, but I'm not exactly losing my mind for anything here.

I'm excited about the NES games (even though I have access to them already through emulation, having them on my Switch will make them easier to play) and about cloud saves. The latter of these should've been included with the system from the start, but I've come to accept that Nintendo is a pretty backwards company. $20/year isn't bad for what I'll get out of it. What's disappointing is that they're not trying to innovate in the online space. They've been so creative with games, so I'd love to see what they could do with an online service if they really tried.

No details about Animal Crossing is also disappointing, but I'm glad they've finally announced it and set a launch window. Personally, nothing exclusive to the console has excited me since Breath of the Wild, so it's about time they release something else that appeals to me. My hope is that the game will have an extensive online component for easy co-op play with friends and that I can play co-op at home, on the TV, with my wife. Otherwise I doubt I'll be able to get her to play the game much. Looking forward to some real information about it.

I'm not telling you that you shouldn't be excited, but games that I have access to in much better ways in multiple other places and a basic feature that should already be there could not be less convincing to me. I'll pay because my hand is being forced if I want to keep playing my games, but I'm not happy about it.

Yeah, I'm not disagreeing with you at all. I had thought that they would announce additional features, but all they announced was that subscribers would get online deals. Overall, it's not a great service, especially if they continue with peer-to-peer online, which I'm pretty sure is what they're doing. Just throwing my perspective out there that for me, it's better than no change at all (of course, I rarely played Switch games online--I do that on my PC on the rare occasions that my wonky internet allows it). Sorry that they're forcing you to pay for basically nothing.

Yeah, this is the first Nintendo console I've bought since the Gamecube. At this rate it's going to be an even longer time before I buy another.

I love mine for other reasons, but I can't say I blame you.

Well, it took 20 years, but Nintendo finally got Square to put Final Fantasy VII on a cartridge.

Switch Online would be much more enticing if more than just NES games were available. What about SNES and Game Boy? I'm sure the Switch could emulate N64 and Gamecube, too.
