Surprised, pleasantly, to see Axiom Verge rated so highly. I was expecting Hollow Knight since it seems a bit more put together but Axiom Verge is definitely more daring in its simplicity. I'm also surprised at how highly Steamworld Dig 2 is rated.
The rest of that list is also just fantastic. I love that Guacamelee, La Mulana 2, and Toki Tori 2 all got their shoutouts in this list. I'd say whoever put this list together is a huge fan of Metroidvanias, it's among the better gaming lists I've seen in a long time.
Yeah, I personally haven't played about half of these games, but it seems like a really solid list between the ones I have played and what I know of the others. I think Ori might not have...

The ground rules for this list: Indie-published two-dimensional platformers published after Order of Ecclesia (e.g. since Oct. 2008).
I was happy to see Yoku's Island Express on there. I was a really big fan of it, but it didn't seem to get much attention overall.
I had no idea that La-Mulana had a sequel. I spent far too much time playing that deeply frustrating game. I might pick it up (even though I am disappointed that the computer is no longer an MSX).

It's not on the list, but I keep hoping Iji gets a re-release or something to help it find a little more visibility with the modern indie audience, as I still think it's one of the best indie freeware metroidvanias I've played.

Unsure how I feel about the placement of Axiom Verge on here. It's definitely a cool game, but I feel like it collapses under the weight of its own novelty and not living up to that after the first few areas. I don't think I've even finished it, it just got too monotonous.
I've been playing Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight and Wuppo thanks to the latest Humble Bundle, and they're both rocking my world in a way that would make me want to include those (and maybe Salt and Sanctuary too, but that might just be my souls fangirlism peeking through), but that doesn't make this a bad list. I'm mostly just happy to see a lot of recent games on here. The indie retro platformer as a genre has been getting so much blowback lately with people saying they're treading over the same ground, but I think the last couple years are where they've really started to mature into their own.
Not sure if Cave Story would even qualify for this list (is it even a metroidvania? it is pretty linear) But I've had a blast every time I decided to pick it up again. Axiom Verge now rates among...

Hollow Knight is just unbelievably good overall. It certainly has its flaws too, but the overall quality level of every aspect of the game and how much content there is hardly seems to be possible when you look at the low base price and small team behind it. I definitely highly recommend it, as long as you're not too sensitive to difficult, occasionally-frustrating games (which you're probably not, if you enjoy Dead Cells).

Oh shit, thanks for the shout out for humble bundle. I just picked up that one, been wanting to play momodora.
