Honestly this trailer was incredibly soothing to my apprehension about this remake. It looks like a labour of love. We saw some Shinra HQ gameplay meaning the chapter will likely go up to the escape from Midgar as predicted. At certain points you can see your equipped materia actually appears in the Buster Sword/Barrett's gatling gun, a nice little touch. Both Braver and Big Shot looked just like their PS1 versions. The Guard Scorpion, Airbuster and Aps all look super auth to the original.

The small changes we saw all appear to be improvements. It looks like we're going to get more of the plate sectors, which we saw almost nothing of in the original. A bit more Sephiroth, not sure how I feel about revealing him extensively before the HQ massacre but maybe it'll work. I guess maybe when Cloud loses his mind/hears voices we will get a more fleshed out Sephiroth presence. Also Heidegger's beard is not nearly magestic enough to do the original's justice.

This will definitely convince me to finally buy a PS4.

Edit: You can see Cloud wielding Hardedge in the Airbuster scene too, so changing weapons will change the model in game as well. Nice nice nice. Can't wait to see the Nailbat in glorious HD.

Edit2: Man how the hell are they going to do characters like Bugenhagen justice? What even is Bugenhagen's deal? Is he cross legged?

That being said, don't hold your breath until they actually announce it.

When the entire collection of episodes is out in another decade or so I will buy the full compendium on PC.

Is it still episodic? I had assumed they got rid of that idea a while back. They said that the physical version is going to be two discs, and it takes quite a lot of data to fill up a single blu-ray.

Oh really? So we only get a diamond WEAPON battle then.. I hope they have another type of "hidden" insanity level battle (relative to the rest of the story at least) in Midgar in that case. They followed the idea through as far as FF13 but it really eased off in difficulty imho. I'll be another waiting for the PC release though so I guess I'll accidentally learn most of this before I get to play.

You won't get any WEAPON's in this release.

Oh wow, I was thinking Midgar like all of Midgar! That'll be cool though, a full game where Aeris doesn't die, good stuff :D

I love Final Fantasy and specially FF7, but i don't have high expectations about this. Modern videogames rarely grab me these days.

Seeing the trailer was awesome. Seeing scenarios, bosses and enemies in other perspectives, but i'm not in awe with the graphics.

I will certainly try to play it, but only if it's out for PC (and when it'll be possible to run on Linux).

To be frank I dont understand the "milking it" crew. They are releasing what they claim a full-length game that covers the Midgar part of the original by fleshing out the Avalanche story and opening the city to exploration. It's two fucking blurays worth of game. Is a full game not worth the price because its #1 in a series?

If they flesh out the original story how is that bad? If we get a 300 hour FF7 collection how is that bad? Its a beloved game. How many people begged for more back in the day?

Forget the original. This is the first game in a multipart series. There is plenty of meat to cover in Midgar, and honestly how little we saw of it in the original was a travesty.

Oh i certainly think if the game is really good it is worth the price if it's not expensive. Will it be?

I love FF7 as much as the next guy. I grew up playing the japanese version of it before there was the english one here in Brazil. It's still my favourite JRPG together with Mario RPG (Snes) and Persona 4 (ps2).

It could not be bad to have 300 hours of FF7, but i don't get my hopes up. You seem certain that it will not suck and i hope you are right. I'm just happy that the battles are not pure action.

If it gets too long, it gets boring. Let's take off the nostalgia glasses. FF7 is not that profound and deep to need 300 hours of fleshing out. I hope that fleshing out is not making an open world full of repetitive side quests like a lot of modern games.

But i hope it will be good because i'm dying to see it. Anyway, i will not pay for it on the heat of the moment.

I learned to be cautious with this in the boardgame hobby.

You're right to be cautious with modern day gaming industry practices.

With that said, I disagree that the world doesn't have room to flesh out. Midgar is a giant city with 8 sectors of upper.plate and slum underneath. Freways and train lines and reactors for each. We saw literally just one street of the upper plate in the original, and two sections of slums. We ran one and a half missions with Avalanche before they were killed off. There is meat there.

Vincent, Cait Sith and arguably Yuffie's back storys could use plenty of fleshing out. We could even dip into Cid further. We could flesh out Shinra and the Turks more. We know absolutely nothing about President Shinra (the father) from the original game before he gets shanked, and while the compendium has done well to Characterize Reno and Rude there are other Turks to caharacterize.

Junon, as the second biggest city on the planet, could also get fleshed out further for exploration. What about the Ancients and the JENOVA calamity? Plenty of meat to expand there, although that risks subverting some mystery.

Now is there as much to flesh out in the rest of the game as there is in Midgar? Probably not. Depending on how in depth the open world becomes I could see them fitting in the rest of disc 1 into the second chapter. Up to the Northern Crater in the third chapter and the rest from Cloud's revelation to the finale in the fourth.

It certainly has a lot of material in there. The game suffered from the limits of that time. PSX was the first console doing the big rpg thing and we were coming from an era where cities/villages on RPGs were big on the outside, but mostly 4 or 5 houses when inside.

What i'm really eager to see is Costa del Sol. And Gold Saucer!

Snowboarding, chocobo racing, the gondola ride, and the submarine games were plot relevant so we should see those atleast.

I hope to god they render that silly bloody moogle game in high def. That would be the true sign of loving recreation.

I am super excited for this. In addition to the official E3 trailer, they also released a ton of details about how exactly the combat will work in FFVII Remake. It seems to be a really solid hybrid of action combat and slow tactical turn play.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmBKGQrUFaM

If you don't want to check out the trailer, Polygon describes the video here.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase offered new insights into how the role-playing game remake will play at Square Enix’s E3 2019 press conference, showing real-time battles that blend with strategic “tactical mode” gameplay.

As players swap between control of characters like Cloud Strife and Barret Wallace, they’ll build up an Active Time Battle (ATB) meter as they do basic attacks. Once that meter fills up, players will be able to slow the action dramatically by consuming the meter, selecting spells or special combat moves. Players will take control of one character at a time, but that doesn’t mean other party members will simply be idle; they’ll attack enemies on their own. Enemies have a meter of their own; once it’s filled, enemies can be staggered.

I know a lot of folks initial concerns on the remake were related to the combat / gameplay and how it had seemed to abandon the Active Time Battle meter. Hopefully this allays some fears.

maybe it's just me but it looks worse than I thought it would be. I'm getting slight ff13 and ff15 flashbacks Hopefully as you level up or progress your character it changes.
