Tell me a story about a game you're playing

This is different from the what have you been playing thread, which is more of an objective reporting of what we've been doing. I instead want to hear a story about your gameplay. Tell me about a discovery you made, the journey of one of your characters, an achievement you're working towards, a funny mishap, a close match, a puzzle that you got stuck on, a realization you had as a player, a glitch that ruined a save, etc.

It can be about anything noteworthy, interesting, exciting, funny, disappointing -- whatever you think makes for a good story. Also, while I'm intending for this to be mostly current -- for games we're playing right now -- feel free to share a great story from times past if you like.

I'm playing Stellaris and created a new species for this run. It autogenerated the empire name "United Raruian Union" which was too funny to pass up. I've decided they're the home of the galactic Department of Redundancy Department and they have a tendency to build redundancy into everything they do, resulting in less-cutting edge but more reliable technology. Their buildings, though they take longer to construct, are considerably safer than average buildings in the galaxy and result in significantly less damage caused by natural disasters.

I did a Rimworld playthrough a few months back, and I tried to do a serialized first-person micro-blog on Mastodon. I didn't stick with it long, but I did make a couple of interesting posts.

The nutshell backstory is, a spaceship of alpaca breeders transporting some stock to a new world suffer an accident and crash-land on a harsh ice planet. 3 women and 4 alpacas survive the landing, and struggle to make a home there.

If you're on Mastodon, you should be able to find all posts under the #AlpacaWorld hashtag (I think ... the finer points of Mastodon's federation still elude me at times).

Otherwise, here are direct links to each post, in order.

I will also note that Rimworld is a game, but it is designed and intended to be a kind of interactive story-generating simulator, so it lends itself well to heavy-role-playing game style like this.

I ragequit Polybridge 2 vowing to occasionally chip away at a level before moving on with the next ones, "lean on me," which is like World 4, level 9. I'm trying not to ape people's solutions, but if I can't solve a thing, I'll find a solution to inspire my own, just looking enough for a general structure. The annoying part, which happens on many games, is the next puzzles were easier. Still difficult, but less so.
