Fitness Weekly Discussion
What have you been doing lately for your own fitness? Try out any new programs or exercises? Have any questions for others about your training? Want to vent about poor behavior in the gym? Started a new diet or have a new recipe you want to share? Anything else health and wellness related?
I don't usually post in these threads but I'm happy that I've officially lost 20 pounds since August! I have another 10 to go before the end of the year, which I'm thinking I'll hit.
The biggest changes I've made are doing cardio 7 days a week (easier because I have a rowing machine at home), and the only other major changes I've made were cutting back on snacking and managing my portions for my lunch, where I've been overeating in. Dinner gives me a lot of leway and calories and keeps me flexible for eating out with friends or dates without too much worry.
That's amazing! Congratulations on the weight loss. It's hard work well worth it.
Thank you for the words of encouragement! I've noticed it's had a better effect on my confidence levels and just feeling comfortable in my own body.
Not without some drawbacks though. I do notice though sometimes my mental health is a bit more affected, sometimes I'm more short tempered probably because I'm hangry sometimes, and I feel like I'm toeing the line between being healthy and eating disorder, but overall it's still a net positive.
Finished with my deload week, the reprieve from training stress was very valuable. All my lifts went up substantially with the reduced volume. We've started the next block of training; slightly lower reps but still more volume than intensity. We'll probably run this for 3-4 weeks before we deload and pivot into a true strength block.
The theme this week has been priorities. My partner has had a difficult week and that means focusing on her and letting training happen when it can. I'm very tired but it feels good to know that I'm putting time where it's most important.
I've been doing phrakture's greyskull lp thrice a week for 3 years and today marks 3 months since I've started mma 4 days per week. In the recent few weeks, I've upped it to 2 hours per day in the morning and 1h weightlifting every other day in the evenings.
I've injured myself in 3 places now, a serious one on the shoulder during bench presses and minor injuries on my left wrist and right hip. My weight has been dropping at around 1.5kg/month for the last 5 months, and I'm down ~20% from my rep maxes for weightlifting.
This week I wasn't able to do much weightlifting at all. I'm glad I'm able to focus on mma, I can feel significant improvements in my speed and power, and I visually look much leaner and fitter now as well.
At the same time, I'm a bit disappointed that I've dropped down from my rep maxes in weightlifting and the multiple injuries are highly discouraging. The human mind seems to focus much more on the negatives rather than enjoying the positives.
Well, at least I'll have some time off now since it's the weekend. Hoping for quick recovery and being able to get back at it well come Monday.
Are you doing the same LP routine for 3 years?
I started off with dumbbells only for the first year with some minor differences. But yeah, doing GSLP since ~2 years. Went from 72kg -> 84kg -> 70kg -> 85kg -> 75kg right now over multiple bulk and keto cuts with it.
I like it because it takes minimal time. I tried ICF for a while too, but that's too time consuming.
I'm about a month into my first bulk and my lifts are climbing fast. I've been weighing myself intermittently and I'm about 10lbs up since I started. Since I'm aiming for 4lbs a month (2lb fat, 2lb muscle) I'm probably eating a little too much.
With that said I think some of the extra weight can be explained by water retention from creatine. I'll probably dial things back slightly to lean out, but it's going well so far.
May I get some advice? I got a bit of tennis elbow after a recent move. I'm taking it easier with weight lifting, but I don't want to lag too much while recovering. Are there any recommended exercises or physical therapy techniques I can do for the elbow?
