Fitness Weekly Discussion
What have you been doing lately for your own fitness? Try out any new programs or exercises? Have any questions for others about your training? Want to vent about poor behavior in the gym? Started a new diet or have a new recipe you want to share? Anything else health and wellness related?
As the cold & rainy season has started to move in, I did my first Zwift ride with the group this morning. It was a lot more fun riding with people I know, but virtual still isn't super fun. Thankfully we are still planning to do in-person morning rides when it's not rainy/snowing.
Also started swimming again. The city built a new gym+aquatics center 5 minutes from my house, so that's been a good motivator. Have to convince myself to try some weight lifting as well, really no idea how to start though. I've always been focused on cardio.
Trying to control my eating on top of everything, looking at cooking more/eating out less. Been making some fish+veg dishes that have been yummy. Doctor recommended the DASH diet which I have to look into.
Just commiserating, but we're looking to shift our diet a little closer to DASH guidelines in our household.
We already home cook a lot with veg, but have gotten into a bad habit of overly relying on unhealthy store-bought snacks. So, looking to buy/make more nutricious snacky options to grab for a quick bite.
Best of luck in your journey!
Been getting back into moving my body after realizing how rusty I've gotten from working + gaming (sitting 12–15 hrs/day some days). I'm 25, not overweight thanks to decent metabolism, but I've noticed I get tired easily, mood dips, and just feel… off.
I've picked up playing some basketball with friends 1 or 2 times a week. So fun, but feels like not enough plus it's a bit inconsistent, so I bought a skateboard for the days our schedules don't line up, mostly cruising for a couple of hours to get fresh air and some low-impact cardio.
Never before I've been this active, and whenever I tried I stopped after a few weeks because working out on my own is just boring and can't really be bothered, so finding fun things to do that are healthy has helped me a lot!
Man, I just want to affirm that I believe this is the secret to consistent fitness. Love the activities you do! Stoked to hear you're enjoying it so much!
Bought a bike trainer for 100$ cause my bike store was clearing them out and ive not been riding since it is, as devalexwhite said, rainy season. Ive put about 100km on it in less than a week so feeling pretty good about maintaining that. Good way to watch some movies. So far i have Lost in Translation and Blade Runner 2049 down.
Climbing continues apace but i think i have to take a break for a week or more. My big toe feels like the nail is going to pop off and fly if i keep using my foot for leverage. Not a great feeling. Arms are feeling good and strong though, i realize just how much technique i rely on after completing a problem the first time. When the walls are refreshed i can barely do v4's. By the time theyre about to get swapped im zipping up. Will probably focus on boring conventional strength training while i let my toe heal :( at this point it messes with my head if i dont exercise in the evening
I went and did some running on purpose for the first time since probably 2010 today. I have a headache and my muscles hurt, but I think I feel almost uniquely better about this than I have about other kinds of exercise so far. While it's higher impact than my stationary bike, it was nice to be outdoors, listening to music and being in the vicinity of others. I did intervals of running and walking and went a total of about 3 miles. I'm gonna try to keep doing this on the weekends and on the weekday I have off every other week. Unfortunately, it'll probably be kind of difficult to be consistent with daylight hours shrinking and my usual work day being 12 hours long. But I'm gonna do what I can!
