Regardless the argument for/against religion/christianity, you have to admit that the biblically accurate interpretations of angels are certainly more artistically interesting.

The "edgy" atheism "snobbery" was a counter to post-00s edgy wars and killings between the west and the middle east, something actually less arguably "edgy". And that was in large part over religion. If you talk down on /r/atheism without the context of current events during its inception, you're being intellectually unfair and being just as "edgy" as the atheists by denigrating their religious, or lack thereof, views. I don't think there's any getting past cultures of edgy anti-theists til we get past these edgy current times where religion tries to infect every which niche it can with the help of edgy conservatives.

You're missing context also. If there was "islamophia" it was often because Muslims were more likely than anyone to chop your head off if you didn't confess belief in Alah and they really had it...

You're missing context also. If there was "islamophia" it was often because Muslims were more likely than anyone to chop your head off if you didn't confess belief in Alah and they really had it hard for atheists as well. You can cry Islamophia if you like but atheists don't chant about chopping the heads off people who don't believe the same way. Hurting their feelings with "islamophia" is a very moderated counter. To make them the bad guys is unfair.

Infected meaning inflicting harm on others. Myself included, I grew up in a religious household, unfortunately. And still to this day, in my state among 12 or so, you can't run for office or jury duty if you haven't found any gods that are believable, aka, if you're an atheist. Especially in a small town in the bible belt, if you declare yourself not believing in any gods, sometimes you get bullied in school, not just by students but also I've gotten a couple snide remarks by teachers and coaches when I opted out of the team's pre-game prayer. Also you can't as optimally run a business sometimes because people think you're the devil, or something. Small towns, word gets around.

The people who pick on /r/atheism are often privileged enough that they haven't experienced "edgy" religious people and feel a need to vent in sometimes "edgy" fashion also. And I cringe so hard when people use the term "edgy" other than ironically as it's often the ones who say it feel the need to be snide and edgy also and it's often done because of the slightest provocations.

What is it with the biblically accurate angels suddenly everywhere? I remember a meme going viral a few months back, does this all stem from that?
