I love this question.
Sitting in the sun.
Drinking a glass of water.
Hiking the local trails.
A good book from the local library.
Accompanying a friend as they walk their dog. (Bonus points for not having to pick up the shit.)
Exercise.
Emailing friends and family.
A good conversation.
Catching someone doing something good and saying "well done, good job, I am proud of you."
Contributing to a local charity or blood drive.
Snuggling up with another a warm body on a cold night.
A good nights sleep.
Reading or watching something funny (I am a sucker for Gary Larson.)
Putting and chipping at the local golf course. It's completely free once you have the equipment. (You need a ball, a putter and a chipping wedge. Your local thrift store will have inexpensive putters for putting and wedges for chipping. The pro shop will sell used balls, or you can find some lost balls on the golf course, or just borrow some balls from the driving range.)

These days, with many of us spending a lot of our lives online, it can be hard to remember the things we used to love doing in the before times, and even harder to make time to do them.
Sometimes it's nice to leave the house with nothing but a notebook or drawing pad, no phone, and go sit somewhere and write something down, or draw something.
Go onto YouTube and look at videos of Hvaldimir the beluga whale, or penguins investigating humans, or seal antics. Animals are such wonderful little fellows, you never know what they're going to...

I'd recently been wondering if people just go to dog parks to hang out with dogs. None of my hobbies are free, I've realized, but can be done cheaply, and I usually turn to some aspect of those....

The absolute cheapest is yoyoing, which can be a blast for $4 if you get something like a Duncan Butterfly. Some days I'll just pick one up and jam on it for twenty minutes or so, see if I figure out something new, or just have fun doing tricks I know with no expectations. This is a pretty solid video on what can be done with the most basic of yoyos, and there's even been a resurgence of people pushing these as far as they can go. You also won't break your TV or split your eyebrow if you do it indoors, even, so it works all year long.

Not totally free, but still cheap if you already have the thing: Going for a bike ride. Cooking a meal from ingredients you already have. Calling a friend. Listening to an album you already know and singing along.

Make it ice water on a hot day and OH BOY that's the stuff.
I’ll start off the thread with dog parks. No dog of your own is required. I just go and pet the good dogs and talk with the nice people.
