Man, I got flashbacks to band camp where they did gentle organized hazing to the freshmen, but then I got hazed by other freshmen for being new to the organization (they all knew each other from middle school). I just wanted to learn/play music. I had no support and even attacked a kid after being pushed too far, after begging them to just leave me alone. Because they weren't supposed to be doing what they were doing I got away with it, but was falling apart and was unable to speak coherently about it by mid-week. My hazing did nothing but make me feel further alienated, and live in a state of anxiety I had grown up with anyway, especially since I was never a blind team player like they insisted we all should be. Sorry, this stirred some stuff up that I remembered.
I'm glad she was able to drive some change, even if it came after she graduated. It's great she was there to help the newbies when her chance came, as well. I found it ironic they told the one person there who lived in a truly dangerous environment to learn to be scared, even. It felt sorta like a mini revenge story for me, in a way.

I was a wide-eyed scholarship kid among daughters of the rich and famous. I expected academic rigor and supportive sisterhood—not humiliating midnight raids. But the most shocking thing to everyone else was when I stood up for myself.

I've been reading this as I can and it's absolutely horrible. I remember starting it quite a few years ago, actually, possibly around the time a referenced AMA wen down on Reddit. I'm in the...

I remember starting it quite a few years ago, actually, possibly around the time a referenced AMA wen down on Reddit. I'm in the section where he's managing his college life and it's absolutely wild.

This was an absolutely harrowing read. I've been going through it for the past two days because of your link. Thank you for sharing it. :)
