For what it’s worth, The Intercept has a pretty mixed track record, to say the least. Proceed with caution.

Media Bias Fact Check is my go-to quick reference, especially for unknown sources.

And the best part about investigative journalism, is that now that its out there, others can dig to find more.

Edit: And as they point out... this is not the first time the FBI has been caught doing this.

Can't you say that about almost every major news organization?

I remember The Intercept had an incident of monumental incompetence when they sent photocopies of intelligence documents mailed to them by Reality Winner to the NSA to check if they're real — and the NSA used the printer tracking dots to identify Winner as the leaker. It's 101 stuff.

Somehow I think if they ever get their hands on Snowden that record's going to be spectacularly broken.

In 2018, she was given the longest prison sentence ever imposed for an unauthorized release of government information to the media....She was sentenced to five years and three months in federal prison.

Yes, of course. But I think @lou's point is that a vague criticism like "hav[ing] a pretty mixed track record" can be lobbed at any organization, so it's not a useful criticism unless you provide some explanation.

(Obviously they failed spectacularly at protecting Reality Winner as a source, but that debacle seems orthogonal to the issue of whether they're factual/biased, so I assume you aren't referring to that?)

Their Wikipedia page offers a good overview of some of the biggest missteps, including Juan Thompson fabricating sources and them ruining Reality Winner’s life. Additionally, in 2020 one of their chief writers, Ryan Grim, was one of the biggest proponents of Tara Reade’s accusations against Biden, even when most other news organizations had passed over it due to serious credibility issues.

I’m a very left-leaning person, so it’s not that I “disagree” with The Intercepts bias necessarily … it’s that they play fast and loose with facts, use hyped up or misleading framing, and generally fuck up Journalism 101 stuff (like the above) in service of that bias.

I’d rather get my news from high credibility and low hype news orgs than have my biases and righteous anger constantly inflamed in a way I agree with. Life is too short for that hyped up bullshit.

Creating terrorists has been a long standing tradition, going back to the Unibomber if not earlier.
