#op I had an early New Yearโs party because of this post where attendees had to bring something related to their Fun Resolution and exchange#them white elephant style#it was fun! ended up with a blanket from a guest who was resolving to be as cozy as possible in the new year#posts
@deanmarywinchester OBSESSED WITH YOU GUYS FOR TURNING IT INTO A LITERAL PARTY AHAHAHAHA oh i wish i had enough people I could rope in for one of these myself!! next year with more planning maybe I can make it happen too :))))
Aside from the silly post in a "serious" place, it seems like many of us are struggling with various life burdens - family, health, finances, school, work, and other stresses.
The traditional formulation of making resolutions in the New Year is so negative - create goals to meet externally imposed expectations or mitigate guilt, and feel terrible when those goals aren't met.
So we could just choose goals or feelings that are fun, entertaining, impose no expectations, are sloppily sentimental or simply silly.
Let's brainstorm here - what would a positive, fun resolution look like for you?

Maybe trying new things in general but I'm focusing on cutting back on things this year so idk.
I just tell myself that cheese is a healthy source of calcium in an otherwise mostly plant-based diet. And most cheeses become one when you melt them, so you never have to throw them away. ๐

That's fair, I definitely want to try new things, I just end up in a loop of wanting to enjoy the things I already like. I suspect this is a bit of the neurodivergency but also not wanting to...

It's just ok for me to sometimes throw out a couple bucks of cheese because I don't like it. Better that than letting it sit in my fridge untried because I was adventurous one day! (But also just one at a time would be fine. )
(I did start trying my mini jams, the strawberry guava is a 6/10)
Take an artistic photograph at least once a month, to make a calendar for next year. Not sure how I'll print it, but that's a future Osly problem. :) I love photography, especially macro photos...

I love photography, especially macro photos that make everyday things seem obscure. Maybe I'll try to theme the photos around the months, too.
I love this. A while ago I resolved to go to at least one live music show every month, and I think my life is better for it! I've seen a lot of really cool local bands that I wouldn't have...

For this year I think I'll try to compliment a stranger as often as I can, and bring a little light into someone's day :)
I ran across a great one in the NYT newsletter this morning - I'm going to keep a running list of every nice thing anyone has ever said about me. It'll be a fine resource for those miserable days...

And I've just been advised that I deserve to eat the last cookie, which is a nice bit of positivity.
We normally do a date night once a month, but this year we are trying to do a date night once a month but away from home. It should be a nice change, but keep the tradition going.

I usually shy away from New Year's Resolutions but changed my mind this year. I'm going to try one new recipe a week. I love to cook and have gotten into a cycle of just making the same things...

I love to cook and have gotten into a cycle of just making the same things over and over. I already have a bunch of new dishes saved down and my hope is that some of them will become new additions to the dishes I go back to cook again and again.

You will find there are many cheeseheads here who will be only too happy to offer advice!
It's less that I need advice generally and more that I need the permission to buy a cheese I might not enjoy
