What’s interesting to me about this little project is it seems like what they really want is to attract a lawsuit, but who would want to attempt this lawsuit? In order to have standing, I would assume that someone would have to a) want to live there, and b) be a member of a minority that is prohibited from living there.

The outcome of “winning” the lawsuit would probably be getting lynched in the yard of your new home by the actual Nazis that the town consists of.

They'll pay someone to do it, basically. (I mean an unaffiliated billionaire will pay someone to do it or whatever)

Correct. It's called a Test Case and they're specifically brought to court with the intention of challenging existing laws.

Yeah it is but that makes it sound neutral to even potentially good.

Test cases themselves are neutral and have been used for/by both "sides" throughout the years. Racial segregation is not good, but the case that ended it in the US was itself a test case.

I know this. I'm saying instead of saying "test case", I said "some billionaire will pay for it" because I don't want it to sound neutral.

God damnit, can we get off this fucking merry go round? It's so difficult to want to engage with the MAGA crowd in good faith when projects like these get off the ground specifically because of the administration we have in office. It feels like "state's rights vs slavery" all over again. "Sure it's not great that they are banning minorities from their housing development, but that's also their right to do so." No it's fucking not! Holy shit. What the fuck is going on in this country. Restricted vaccines. Roll back on personal freedoms. Campily named concentration camps. Military deployed on the streets of our cities. And now a return to segregation? Feeling like it's about time to R.U.N.N.O.F.T. if you can manage it.

How are others dealing with the absolute deluge of bullshit from the last few weeks, let alone the last 6 months? I'm trying to find reasons to think things may get better or there may be pushback but I'm seeing nothing. Outside of leaning into my local community or planning to leave, I'm not sure what to do.

Also, this absolute gem on the founders

The community’s two architects — a classically trained French horn player who has livestreamed his own sex videos, and a former jazz pianist arrested but not charged for attempted murder in Ecuador

I suppose I'm dealing with this deluge by thinking about how I want to spend my life, and what the best use of my remaining time in this world would be.

Many of the people who died in WWII fighting the facists did it with the hope that it would lead to a better world. It wasn't an ideal outcome for them as individuals, but it made a better world for everyone else. Did they know that they were going to their deaths? No, but they went knowing that it was a possibility and they went anyway. Was it necessary to pave the path to a better world? Yes.

But beyond that, thousands of people in Nazi-occupied territory engaged in acts of bravery to protect their friends and neighbors from the occupiers and laid the groundwork for the people who engaged in more direct action. Their community networks literally saved lives when the powers that be were attempting to crush them.

So I suppose I'm musing on themes of community and self-sacrifice in the face of dominant power structures that are inimical to my way of life. Talk to your neighbors. Take care of your friends. Figure out what's worth fighting for, and if it comes to it, what's worth losing things to protect. Fight for it. Protect it.

Sometimes you just have to accept that people are enemies and will not respond to reason.

Wow. I'm not for segregation, but in this case it's nice they self identify as racists and separate themselves from decent society.

An interesting piece by the NYT on a white supremacist housing project that aims to get the fair housing laws reinterpreted under the current administration.

But fucking with the FHA would be bad.
