it's blatantly obvious that if Europe was in US's shoes, they wouldn't be talking like this.

Great thread, I'm curious to see what comes up. Here are some channels that came to mind, the first two are more analytical:

Living Ironically in Europe is a Serbian with Hungarian ancestry living in Romania, who produces content about historical & cultural topics in Central-Eastern Europe & the Balkans. If you click with his sense of humor his videos are pretty insightful for people unfamiliar with the region. He has also created videos with NFKRZ already recommended in this thread.

serpentza is a South African who lived in China for a decade or so before he was forced to leave (iirc) and has led quite an interesting life there. He talks mainly about his time there and how the country has changed, but also offers some opinions about the situation in South Africa.

A couple of travel vlogs I like that are about daily life and local culture. I know it's not exactly what you asked but I'm curious if someone has some suggestions for similar type of content, a lot of travel vlogs are very superficial and you don't really get to see how people elsewhere think.

Small Brained American is a vlogger who has a lot of content where he interacts with the local populace, I was able to learn quite a bit about various cultures through these videos. A good example is his talk with an Iraqi local in Baghdad.

Katherine's Journey to the East is about rural China, where she lives and speak the language. She also interacts a lot with the locals and I think you can get some insight into the way the people there tick.

The game ID is in the store page's URL btw, it's inconvenient to figure out which game is which for sure but just putting it out there.

What games are you looking to mod?

On Linux you need to use a compatibility layer called Wine that creates a separate environment (with a file system, flags, etc) that the Windows programs run in. It's also what Valve uses for Steam, with some enhancements specific to gaming, which is Proton mentioned by the OP. In part thanks to Valve, Wine has matured much over the past few years, and once you figure it out, you're able to make pretty much anything work in it. I've even been able to run Cyberpunk with mods (which uses custom dlls) on a Mac using GPTK (Apple's equivalent to Proton, also based on Wine).

So in my experience there is always a way to do it, but you sometimes need to tinker a bit. Usually with more popular games someone has already done the tinkering for you, for example for Bethesda games there this you need to download. I've used this for Oblivion and FNV and it works great, and other examples I can think of that I was able to mod without a hitch are X-Plane and Paradox games. Any Steam workshop mods will work out of the box too.

Also some proprietary codecs like Dolby's dvhe or ec-3 aren't supported on Linux. Unlike HDR10 though it's probably only relevant to a fraction of users.

Nvidia is what causes me the most headache on Linux by far. I'd rather never game again than switch back to Windows though, so the solution is just to go for an AMD build.

You mentioning the PS2 reminds me of the of the cartoony art direction many games went for, which allow them to age pretty well, at least graphically. I've completed SSX3 this year, and played Ratchet & Clank 3 for several hours (both SP & MP), both of which I had a blast with and still look decent. Some other examples that I can think of are Ape Escape, Banjo Kazooie, Sly, in fact the entire PS2 vintage look that is based on these franchises is pretty popular these days too.

The gameplay in each was surprisingly good as well, with SSX in particular I felt that the arcadey controls might as well be a stylistic choice albeit a bit too easy. What makes a modern, similar game stand apart would be the more realistic, physics based gameplay that aren't necessarily more fun. I'm thinking of SSX 2016 in this instance, but you could also make this comparison with racing games. Thinking about it I would really like to play a Hot Pursuit 2 or Auto Modellista type game with more of a challenge and some QoL improvements, but I digress.

I actually don't think it's feasible to write a generalized extension like that, since each site has a unique DOM structure. You can't simply filter the text itself, you'd need to remove the relevant parent node unless you're fine with empty spaces. Due to this, even ad blockers work by blocking certain network requests and using cosmetic filters that are custom to each site.

That said, I think your suggestion to use uBlock is the way to go here, it has a :has-text selector that can be used for this. You'd just need to create a new rule for each site you visit.

What was the point of the threat

National politics. There is a strong anti-federalist sentiment inside the country with a desire to have Hungary be a sovereign nation that "will not dance to Brussel's tune" – this is the caption on posters plastered all over the place right now with Alex Soros and Von der Leyen's faces.

Orban's original message towards his voter base was that they were not going to allow Ukraine in right now because there are other countries that have waited longer and should be prioritized (for example Serbia), due to concerns about minority rights (including the treatment of Hungarian minorities in Zakkarpatia), and due to problems with corruption in Ukraine.

Naturally the major reason for the veto was the withholding of funds but to keep up appearances towards the voters, they need to huff and puff a bit even after getting their pockets filled.

Everybody in Switzerland is fluent in Standard German and the local dialect isn't something that you can really learn from a book. There are resources on the internet as far as I'm aware but you need the daily interaction to learn it meaningfully. Additionally, there are many foreigners in Basel that will speak the language as an L2 and are fluent in English (as are the Swiss themselves) so you'll have time to really delve into it once you move.

I recommend you forget about the dialect and just go for Standard German, you'll have a much easier time with it since it's standardized. In a way Basel German is quite easy to learn from there since it's really close to Standard German anyway, closer than other dialects at least.

Sorry for the hurried reply but I'm on my phone, I'll try to remember to expand a bit when I'm home. I'm a native dialect speaker btw.

Appenzeller cheese is the best semi-hard cheese and it's not even a competition. It comes in different varieties based how long it's been aged which affects how spicy it is. When you eat the spiciest type there's an explosion of aroma as the cheese melts away in your mouth, an unparalleled experience.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has the option to toggle between a minimap and compass and I have occasionally turned it off completely to stray around in the world if I wasn't focusing on anything in particular. During missions the compass was often enough, but the minimap did save me some frustration at times with navigation. I think they struck a nice balance in this regard.
