Are people in their 40s so desperate to not let go of their childhoods that a 70 year old man in an embarrassing rubber suit having a digital doll copy bounce around like a ping pong ball is going to make a billion dollars?
I'm being facetious, but personally my nostalgia reserves are fully tapped out. Enough.
I would be surprised if this made a billion actually. I think if people cared more about the DC universe up to this point it’d have a chance but right now I think it’d make what The Batman made....

It’s so obvious what they’re chasing but Toby Maguire era Spider-Man was kinda already the start of modern, good-looking superhero movie making while Keaton era Batman was still trashy kid-show superhero movie making. It clashes. Especially with them still being unable to let go of (or fully commit to, for that matter) that “dark and serious” tone. People are supposed to nuts over Keaton, Supergirl and double-Ezra but you just feel exhausted watching that shit show unfold over the span of a trailer, I expect the movie not doing much better.
Thing is, there's plenty of people going nuts over it. For each comment in here complaining about DCU's inability to do anything right and sucking at that fat nostalgia teet of CGI Keaton there...

Yea, I mean people went nuts over the Snyder cut as well... doesn't necessarily make it work or a big box office success. It just seems inconsistent and tonally all over the place.

The main thing I don't understand is that this is apparently a key movie because it resets the DCU somehow. This is the nth time they reset it, it has been complete chaos since at least Batman v...

This looks goofy and super fun. I don't need twelve layers of sophisticated reasons to enjoy a movie. It's a movie about a guy that runs fast, not a philosophical commentary on the evils of society. It's supposed to be silly.
Making a movie about a multiverse is ironically a lot like time travel. It might work out okay, but every time you do it you risk creating the biggest shitshow you've ever seen in your life....

Spiderman? Fine
Everything Everywhere all at Once? Fine
Doctor Strange? Omega-level shitshow
Leaning hard into 1992 Michael Keaton Batman nostalgia is not a fantastic sign.
I wonder how much nostalgia the general comic book movie audience even feels for some 30+ year old Batman movies. What's the angle here? Will it really sell more tickets..?

They should have done it right and done Flashpoint with Thomas Wayne. Prep the trailers like its going to be Batman and then BAM! Thomas Wayne bludgeons a man to death and the audience is both...

But it does remind me of this scene in Birdman.
