Obviously this will affect movies. The last time a strike happened movies still went into production but they did that without being able to have a writer re-write the script. Star Trek 09 went into production and Abrams, being part of the WGA, would encourage actors to improvise. For Quantum of Solace, Daniel Craig re-wrote some of the script (and the strike is why that movie is so short and action heavy).
A more immediate effect will be seen on TV. SNL will be cutting their season early, as well as Late Night Talk Shows.

Conan during the strike was some of his best work.

Didn't the last strike have something to do with the dominance of reality shows?
Yeah. TV producers turned to reality tv shows because they needed to fill spaces during the strike.
