Vote for "Movie of the Week" in December - 1990s edition

Edit: Voting closed

Thanks to everyone who have so far participated in the five movies we did in November. We need to pick four movies for December and it is going to be any movies from the 1990s.

Rules

  • Must have a release date between 1990 and 1999. If in doubt, whatever it says on IMDb
  • Not one we have already done
  • Only one nomination per user
  • Please only nominate if you intent to participate

In case of ties in the number of votes, random.org will decide. Voting closes Sunday.

This overview on Letterboxd can be of some inspiration.

In addition, I think it will be too much to do a vote on voting categories, but I am curious to get some feedback and ideas. Should we go narrower like genres (westerns, horror, science fiction) or perhaps niche genres (road movie, murder mystery, historic)? How about directors - like I had an idea of doing a Kubrick versus Spielberg for example. Actors, countries, film festivals? Or is it okay to have the category be very broad?

It was released in Nov of 1990 and was the definition of every millennials childhood. You'll laugh, you'll cry, but most importantly, you'll get lost in the world of Kevin McCallister's 8 year old world.

So Home Alone is probably a much better choice, especially if OP wants to get more people participating, and involved in the discussions.

I'll keep it in line with the Home Alone suggestion in keeping it light and "normie" ish. Point Break.
Edit: I change my mind I'll go with Talented Mr Ripley

I'm obsessed with the Oscar's so you could do winners in specific categories. Acting, Original and/or Adapted Screenplay, Director, Picture, Editing, Cinematography, etc. That would be cool.

Film Festival idea is pretty cool. You could do TIFF People's Choice Winners, Golden Lion winners, Palme D'or Winners, Golden Bear winners.

That is a lot of titles in one post, but I will note you down for The Talented Mr. Ripley :) I don't mind 3 hour movies but we did somehow chose some rather long ones this month. Maybe I should do...

I don't mind 3 hour movies but we did somehow chose some rather long ones this month. Maybe I should do a month of movie with a limited runtime.

if nothing else, watch Meet Joe Black for the first scene or two.

Dances with Wolves. For future, I like the idea of featuring directors. I also like the idea of featuring different countries, although any suggestion should be available without piracy.

    • 4th of December: Lost Highway
    • 11th of December: Edward Scissorhands

    • 25th of December: Home Alone

Edit: Home Alone and Lost Highway switched places for better Christmas compatability reasons.

Should the order maybe be reversed, so that the actual Christmas movies are closer to Christmas eve/day?

Fair point. At my house Home Alone is watched several times during December but Lost Highway isn't very Christmasy at least

Edward Scissorhands. It's a modern fairytale about loneliness and ostracism. I've watched it before twice and enjoyed it very much. Don't mind watching it again to discuss but I'd prefer to watch...

I've watched it before twice and enjoyed it very much. Don't mind watching it again to discuss but I'd prefer to watch something else. Just throwing this out as a suggestion to bump this thread and hopefully get more suggestions.

Very interested in joining more film discussions, not something I've tried before.

Lost Highway from 1997 is my pick. No other reason than I have only watched a few David Lynch films and want to see this seemingly well regarded one of his.
