Nominate for Movie of the Week in June - Horror movies
Voting closed
Let us try some simpler nomination categories, which I hope can bring more immediate responses. Just plain and simple horror movies. I assume you can define that within reason and not need hard genre defining rules. We need to pick 4 movies.
Rules
- Be considered a horror movie
- Not one we have done before
- Only one nomination per user
- Please only nominate if you intent to participate
- Upvote the post(s) with a nomination you would like to be picked for discussion next month
- Please state the title of the movie clearly on the first line, and add any additional general comments in the next paragraph to keep voting simple
In case of ties in the number of votes, random.org will decide. Voting closes Sunday.
The Wicker Man (1973)
I love this movie and am looking for an opportunity to show my wife since she loves Midsommar and I consider it to be extremely similar to The Wicker Man so I hope she likes it too.
Ravenous (1999)
Not your typical horror movie, but so damn good with an absolute banger of a soundtrack that does a great job setting the mood. Guy Pearce does a good job but Robert Carlyle steals the show for me. I love this weird movie and I'm pretty sure it would never get made in today's landscape.
I’ll do a 21st century suggestion as MaXXXine is coming out and say X (2022) with Pearl also thrown in there as an optional double feature.
Oh, Ti West! He does good retro.
The Exorcist (1973)
I am not that well versed in the horror classics and haven't seen this, but since it is on basically every list of top horror movies, I assume it is essential viewing.
Phantasm (1979)
It's my favorite film of all time. Dream logic and weird shots abound, with one of the most distinctive villains in any horror movie. It shows just about as much striking originality (the spheres) as it does more or less blatant plagiarism (the Dune box, the dwarves). It's also a lot of fun.
Oh, can barely remember this one!
Kairo (2001)
I saw a lot of J-horror back then. This is one I barely remember watching! But I always wanted to give it a rewatch. It is one of the recognized J-horror classics, and the themes of lonelyness and the internet is unusual for a horror fare.
So schedule for June will be:
