That said, the linked Vulture article about the process working on it was concerning. I remember reading it back when it was first released. As soon as I read it, I knew that the sequel couldn't be released on the promised date, and not just because it was explicitly stated inside the article. The staff was massively overworked, and the micromanaging style described just didn't make it feasible to release it within a year.
I still seriously wonder if Phil Lord has aphantasia based on how he had trouble visualizing scenes without seeing them largely finished, which, as the article explains, is really bad in 3D animation. I imagine Sony wasn't too happy about all the wasted hours of work from that.
Folks with aphantasia can still storyboard for approvals and communicate via text, though. I think it's more that this is an ambitious project and they need more time to think through...

It’s a lost opportunity as they’re just losing steam from the second one’s success as this deals with production problems
The original release date for Beyond was March 2024, the film will now likely not be out anytime before 2027. I mean what kind of planning is that.

It was a real missed call giving Beyond a release date in the theater that couldn't possibly be delivered on. I also have reservations with Lord and Miller's style of remaking the movie over and over and over again spending so many resources to make another couple movies worth of test shots, (an alternate universe cut was marketed as a bonus feature in the original Spider-Verse release) I wonder who came to who and said that they needed more time between producers and directors. Hoping the movie is better off for it.

Jeff Sneider is now being told that Sony has scrapped most of ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ for “creative reasons,” and that the movie is now unlikely to release before 2027 given the detailed animation it requires. The ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ team is apparently “relieved” by the scrapping as they will now have more time to work on the sequel.
I'm honestly happy that the team will get more time and might not have to work such grueling conditions to meet a tight deadline. I was more concerned that this article was gonna say the project...

They may have lost steam and potential huge numbers, but there'll still be a big audience for this. This is one of the best executions of Spider-man to date. They could release the first two films when we get closer to the release of the third.

Composer for the movie Daniel Pemberton is implying that the report isn’t quite true.
Chris Miller now denies this
